2	8		WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	9		recognize Texas State University on the grand occasion of its
4	10		125th anniversary; and
5		-	WHEREAS, Governor Joseph Sayers approved the ~~establishment~~
6		-	of Southwest Texas State Normal School in San ~~Marcos on May 10,~~
7		-	1899, and the first class of 32 teachers was ~~graduated from the~~
8		-	college in 1904; and

9	15		WHEREAS, That teachers college benefited from notable
10	16		expansion and over the last 125 years has become a renowned
11	17		research institution with more than 200 undergraduate and
12	18		graduate programs; the university serves approximately 40,000
13	19		students at two campus locations, and the institution is opening
14	20		its first international campus in Mexico next year with many
15	21		others planned for the future; and
16	22		WHEREAS, Texas State University also is celebrating
17	23		reaching the largest fundraising milestone in its history; the
18	24		decade-long capital campaign raised $275 million, of which $166
19	25		million will be directed to student financial aid in the form of
20	26		scholarships and fellowships; and
21	27		WHEREAS, Texas State University upholds its enduring
22	28		commitment to education, innovation, and community engagement
23	29		through the skilled leadership of its current president,
24	30		Dr. Kelly Damphousse, and all associated with the school are
25	31		truly deserving of recognition for continuing a proud legacy of
26	32		academic excellence in the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
27	33		RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
28	34		Legislature, hereby commend the administrators, faculty, and
29	35		staff of Texas State University and join all associated with the
30	36		school in celebrating the university's 125th anniversary; and,
31	37		be it further
32	38		RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
33	39		the university as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
