28 WHEREAS, World Down Syndrome Day is being held at the State
39 Capitol on March 21, 2025; and
410 WHEREAS, Down syndrome, the most commonly occurring
511 chromosomal condition, occurs in individuals who have a full or
6- partial extra copy of chromosome 21; one of every 700 babies born
7- in the United States each year is born with Down syndrome; and

13+ the United States each year is born with Down syndrome; and
814 WHEREAS, Medical advances have significantly increased the
915 life expectancy of people with Down syndrome, which is now
10- approaching that of peers without the condition; in addition to
11- the advantages of modern medicine, support groups and other
12- resources are now available in nearly every community in the
13- United States; and

1420 WHEREAS, When provided with quality education programs, a
1521 stimulating home environment, good health care, and support from
1622 family and friends, individuals with Down syndrome can lead
1723 fulfilling and productive lives; much progress has been made
1824 through the vision and hard work of parents, researchers, medical
1925 professionals, and other advocates, who have helped secure the
20- rights of people with Down syndrome to live at home, attend
21- schools, access appropriate health care, get married, find work,
22- and contribute to society; and
26+ rights of people with Down syndrome to live at home, attend schools,
27+ access appropriate health care, get married, find work, and
28+ contribute to society; and
2329 WHEREAS, In 2011, the United Nations General Assembly
24- declared March 21 as World Down Syndrome Day; this year, the
25- State of Texas is joining with countries around the globe in
26- recognition of this special event, and all Texans are
27- encouraged to take part by helping to build a culture of
28- greater respect and inclusion for those living with Down
29- syndrome; now, therefore, be it
30- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
31- Legislature, hereby recognize March 21, 2025, as World Down
32- Syndrome Day at the State Capitol.

34+ those living with Down syndrome; now, therefore, be it
35+ RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature
36+ hereby recognize March 21, 2025, as World Down Syndrome Day at the
37+ State Capitol.
