SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 280 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to join the citizens of Waco in celebrating Waco Day at the State Capitol on March 19, 2025; and WHEREAS, Founded in 1849 as a village on the banks of the Bosque and Blanco Rivers, Waco marked its 175th anniversary with a yearlong celebration concluding in March of 2025; and WHEREAS, The city remains a center of education, commerce, and tourism and is home to numerous culturally significant spaces, including the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum, Waco Mammoth National Monument, the Texas Sports Hall of Fame, Dr Pepper Museum, and Cameron Park Zoo; Waco is also renowned for such higher education institutions as Baylor University, Texas State Technical College, Tarleton State University's Waco campus, and McLennan Community College; and WHEREAS, Visitors and residents alike enjoy premier shopping and dining opportunities as well as natural attractions and recreational activities on the Brazos and Bosque Rivers, Lake Waco, and at the city's many parks, which showcase the scenic beauty of live oaks, Spanish oaks, and cedar elms; and WHEREAS, Citizens of Waco may take great pride in their city's rich history and dynamic growth that make it a vital part of the Lone Star State, and Waco Day provides a welcome opportunity for all to celebrate this outstanding community as it looks ahead to an even brighter future; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th Legislature, hereby recognize March 19, 2025, as Waco Day at the Capitol and extend to the people of Waco best wishes for a memorable 175th anniversary celebration; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the visiting delegation in honor of this occasion.
