	8	+	WHEREAS, Residents of Maverick County are gathering in Austin
	9	+	on February 5, 2025, to celebrate Maverick County Day at the State
	10	+	Capitol; and
5	11		WHEREAS, Located in Southwest Texas, Maverick County was
6		-	formed in 1856 and named for cattleman and state legislator
7		-	~~Samuel~~ Augustus Maverick; the county was formally organized 15
8		-	~~years~~ later, and its county seat, Eagle Pass, was established on
9		-	~~the~~ border between Texas and Mexico; the city was originally
10		-	~~named El~~ Paso del Aguila because of the frequent flights of
11		-	~~Mexican eagles~~ over the area; and
	12	+	formed in 1856 and named for cattleman and state legislator Samuel
	13	+	Augustus Maverick; the county was formally organized 15 years
	14	+	later, and its county seat, Eagle Pass, was established on the
	15	+	border between Texas and Mexico; the city was originally named El
	16	+	Paso del Aguila because of the frequent flights of Mexican eagles
	17	+	over the area; and
12	18		WHEREAS, Over the years, city and county officials have
13	19		demonstrated an ongoing commitment to working together to create
14	20		jobs, encourage young people, and improve the quality of life in
15		-	their region of the state; civic leaders are also dedicated to
16		-	the effective collaboration of the public and private sectors and
17		-	to the administration of an economic development plan that will
18		-	attract and retain solid business, industry, and trade, as well
19		-	as affordable housing; and
20		-	WHEREAS, With three international bridges, including a
21		-	rail bridge, Maverick County has become an important port of
22		-	entry for international commerce, and the Kickapoo Traditional
23		-	Tribe of Texas provides a significant source of jobs, revenue,
24		-	and tourism; visitors to the region can also learn about area
25		-	history at Fort Duncan Park and San Juan Plaza and enjoy outdoor
26		-	recreation at Maverick County Lake; moreover, they can stroll the
27		-	streets of historic downtown Eagle Pass, which has been
28		-	designated as a Texas Main Street City by the Texas Historical
29		-	Commission; and

35		-	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
36		-	Legislature, hereby recognize February 5, 2025, as Maverick
37		-	County Day at the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the
38		-	visiting delegation.
