| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 9 | 9 | | recognize Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, in honor of |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Day at the State Capitol on March 18, |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | 2025; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, was |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | founded on November 17, 1911, at Howard University; the first |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Black national fraternal organization to be established at a |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Historically Black College or University, Omega Psi Phi |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Fraternity now has more than 700 chapters around the world; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, The fraternity has a history of shaping |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | purposeful, service-oriented men who seek to create permanent |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | improvements in health, housing, civil rights, and education for |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | African Americans; in 1927, the fraternity instituted the annual |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | observance of National Negro Achievement Week, a tradition that |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | continues to be celebrated today as Black History Month; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Throughout its existence, Omega Psi Phi |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Fraternity has been led by visionary and capable members who have |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | allowed the fraternity to develop a worldwide presence; its |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | members are devoted to promoting the organization's mission of |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | shaping individuals and communities who uphold the values of |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | strength, responsibility, and perseverance and who promote the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | ideals of scholarship and service; and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Since its inception, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity has |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | been a source of hope, inspiration, and positive change in the |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | communities it serves, and it is indeed fitting that its members |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | receive special recognition on their fine leadership and their |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | outstanding efforts on behalf of the fraterity; now, therefore, |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | be it |

| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | Legislature, hereby recognize March 18, 2025, as Omega Psi Phi |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Fraternity Day at the Capitol and extend to the visiting |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | delegation sincere best wishes for an enjoyable stay in Austin; |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | and, be it further |

| 41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
