2	8		WHEREAS, Residents of Wise County are visiting Austin on
3		-	February 4, 2025, to celebrate Wise County Day at the State
4		-	Capitol; and
5		-	WHEREAS, Located in the northwestern part of the state,
6		-	Wise County was established on January 23, 1856; the county was
7		-	carved out of Cooke County by legislative act and named in honor
8		-	of Henry A. Wise, a U.S. congressman from Virginia who had
9		-	supported the annexation of Texas; at the same time as it created
10		-	Wise County, the legislature decreed that its county seat be
11		-	established within five miles of the county's center, and two
12		-	years later that new community became known as Decatur, after the
13		-	naval hero Stephen Decatur; and
	9	+	February 4, 2025, to celebrate Wise County Day at the State Capitol;

19		-	~~marketing and~~ processing for area agribusiness; and

24		-	as well as Tuf Cooper and Texas Rodeo Hall of Famer Roy Cooper,
25		-	~~both of~~ the famed Cooper family; and

28		-	~~Park,~~ and the pink granite Wise County Courthouse, which was
29		-	~~completed in~~ 1896; the county also offers a variety of
30		-	~~recreational~~ opportunities at Lake Bridgeport, Eagle Mountain
31		-	~~Lake, and the~~ Caddo-Lyndon B. Johnson National Grasslands; in
32		-	~~addition, area~~ residents commemorate their heritage with the
33		-	~~annual Butterfield~~ Stage Days Festival in May, the Wise County
34		-	~~Old Settlers Reunion in~~ July, and the Chisholm Trail Days and
35		-	~~Western Heritage Festival in~~ August; and

38		-	great pride in their community, and it is indeed fitting to honor
39		-	their unique contributions to the story of the Lone Star State;
40		-	now, therefore, be it
41		-	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
42		-	Legislature, hereby recognize February 4, 2025, as Wise County
43		-	Day at the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the visiting
44		-	delegation.
