7 | 10 | | Harold Meyer, who died November 18, 2024, at the age of 74; and |

8 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Richard Meyer was born on July 5, 1950, in Port |
---|
9 | 12 | | Lavaca, and he grew up exploring the countryside and coastal |
---|
10 | 13 | | waters of Calhoun County; he graduated from Calhoun High School |
---|
11 | 14 | | in 1968 and served with distinction in the National Guard for six |
---|
12 | 15 | | years; and |
---|
13 | 16 | | WHEREAS, On August 23, 1975, Richard married Jackie |
---|
14 | 17 | | Schwarting, and together, they built a solid and loving |
---|
15 | 18 | | foundation upon which they raised their two children, Ty and |
---|
16 | 19 | | Leslie; the couple offered a sense of joy and belonging to their |
---|
17 | 20 | | nine grandchildren and to all who shared in their lives |
---|
18 | 21 | | throughout their 49 years of marriage; and |
---|
19 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Richard Meyer dedicated himself to his vocation |
---|
20 | 23 | | as a farmer and rancher, and his vast knowledge of the region and |
---|
21 | 24 | | his steadfast commitment to his community helped him to win |
---|
22 | 25 | | election as Calhoun County judge; he took office on January 1, |
---|
23 | 26 | | 2019, and fulfilled the duties of his roll with distinction, and |
---|
24 | 27 | | he was serving in his second term at the time of his passing; and |
---|
25 | 28 | | WHEREAS, As county judge, he demonstrated fairness and |
---|
26 | 29 | | impartiality and a deep understanding of the challenges and |
---|
27 | 30 | | opportunities facing residents of Calhoun County; his leadership |
---|
28 | 31 | | and unwavering dedication earned him the respect and admiration |
---|
29 | 32 | | of his colleagues and fellow public servants as well as the |
---|
30 | 33 | | residents of Calhoun County; and |
---|
31 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Richard's service extended beyond his duties as |
---|
32 | 35 | | judge, and he was a proud supporter of local youth through 4-H, |
---|
33 | 36 | | Future Farmers of America, and youth rodeo events; he served as |
---|
34 | 37 | | president of the Calhoun County Cattlemen's Association for 22 |
---|
35 | 38 | | years and was an instrumental member of the Victoria Economic |
---|
36 | 39 | | Development Corporation; he also devoted his time to serving |
---|
37 | 40 | | Hospice of South Texas for 15 years, and he was an active member |
---|
38 | 41 | | of Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church; and |
---|
39 | 42 | | WHEREAS, Judge Meyer leaves behind a legacy of leadership, |
---|
40 | 43 | | compassion, and integrity that will endure for generations to |
---|
41 | 44 | | come, and his memory will be forever treasured by his wife, |
---|
42 | 45 | | Jackie, his children and their spouses, his cherished |
---|
43 | 46 | | grandchildren, his community, and all who were privileged to |
---|
44 | 47 | | share his life; now, therefore, be it |
---|
45 | 48 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th |
---|
46 | 49 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
47 | 50 | | family of Richard Harold Meyer; and, be it further |
---|
48 | 51 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
49 | 52 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
---|
50 | 53 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
