7+ SENATE RESOLUTION
58 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
69 citizens of Calhoun County in mourning the loss of Judge Richard
710 Harold Meyer, who died November 18, 2024, at the age of 74; and
811 WHEREAS, Richard Meyer was born on July 5, 1950, in Port
912 Lavaca, and he grew up exploring the countryside and coastal
1013 waters of Calhoun County; he graduated from Calhoun High School
1114 in 1968 and served with distinction in the National Guard for six
1215 years; and
1316 WHEREAS, On August 23, 1975, Richard married Jackie
1417 Schwarting, and together, they built a solid and loving
1518 foundation upon which they raised their two children, Ty and
1619 Leslie; the couple offered a sense of joy and belonging to their
1720 nine grandchildren and to all who shared in their lives
1821 throughout their 49 years of marriage; and
1922 WHEREAS, Richard Meyer dedicated himself to his vocation
2023 as a farmer and rancher, and his vast knowledge of the region and
2124 his steadfast commitment to his community helped him to win
2225 election as Calhoun County judge; he took office on January 1,
2326 2019, and fulfilled the duties of his roll with distinction, and
2427 he was serving in his second term at the time of his passing; and
2528 WHEREAS, As county judge, he demonstrated fairness and
2629 impartiality and a deep understanding of the challenges and
2730 opportunities facing residents of Calhoun County; his leadership
2831 and unwavering dedication earned him the respect and admiration
2932 of his colleagues and fellow public servants as well as the
3033 residents of Calhoun County; and
3134 WHEREAS, Richard's service extended beyond his duties as
3235 judge, and he was a proud supporter of local youth through 4-H,
3336 Future Farmers of America, and youth rodeo events; he served as
3437 president of the Calhoun County Cattlemen's Association for 22
3538 years and was an instrumental member of the Victoria Economic
3639 Development Corporation; he also devoted his time to serving
3740 Hospice of South Texas for 15 years, and he was an active member
3841 of Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church; and
3942 WHEREAS, Judge Meyer leaves behind a legacy of leadership,
4043 compassion, and integrity that will endure for generations to
4144 come, and his memory will be forever treasured by his wife,
4245 Jackie, his children and their spouses, his cherished
4346 grandchildren, his community, and all who were privileged to
4447 share his life; now, therefore, be it
4548 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
4649 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
4750 family of Richard Harold Meyer; and, be it further
4851 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4952 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
5053 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
5154 memory of Richard Meyer.
