2	8		WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	9		recognize Mid Rio Grande Border Area Health Education Center in
4	10		Laredo and to join in celebrating March 24 through 30, 2025, as
5	11		National Area Health Education Center Week; and
6	12		WHEREAS, The Area Health Education Center program was
7	13		created by the United States Congress in 1971 with the goal to
8	14		recruit, train, and retain a health professions workforce
9	15		committed to underserved and rural populations by partnering
10	16		with academic institutions, local health care providers, and
11	17		community-based organizations to provide education and clinical
12	18		training; and
13	19		WHEREAS, The Mid Rio Grande Border Area Health Education
14	20		Center, which was established in 1993, is a nonprofit corporation
15	21		and has served more than 600,622 individuals in Dimmit, Duval,
16	22		Jim Hogg, LaSalle, Starr, Webb, Willacy, and Zapata Counties with
17	23		a wide range of programs; and
18	24		WHEREAS, More than 160 alumni of the center are currently
19	25		practicing as health care providers; more than 90 percent of
20	26		program participants reported pursuing a higher education, and
21	27		more than 94 percent reported that the center influenced their
22	28		choice of career in the health care field; and
23	29		WHEREAS, The center provides accredited continuing
24	30		education conferences for practicing professionals, pipeline
25	31		programs for students of all ages to spark an interest in health
26	32		careers, and information to improve the health status and quality
27	33		of life for residents in the region; and
28	34		WHEREAS, For over three decades, the Mid Rio Grande Border
29	35		Area Health Education Center in Laredo has played a vital role in
30	36		the provision of quality health education in South Texas, and it
31	37		is truly fitting that this esteemed organization and similar
32	38		centers nationwide receive special recognition for strengthening
33	39		the health professions workforce and improving access to quality
34	40		care; now, therefore, be it
35	41		RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
36	42		Legislature, hereby commend all who contribute to Mid Rio Grande
37	43		Border Area Health Education Center on their invaluable efforts
38	44		to improve health care in Texas and in underserved regions across
39	45		the country and extend to all best wishes for a successful
40	46		National Area Health Education Center Week; and, be it further
41	47		RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
42	48		the center as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
