2	8		WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	9		join supporters of the Oakland Cemetery and residents of Dallas
4	10		County in celebrating the dedication of the site's official Texas
5	11		Historical Marker on April 2, 2025; and
6	12		WHEREAS, Established in 1892 in what was considered rural
7	13		Dallas County, Oakland Cemetery now sits only a few miles from
8		-	Dallas's thriving downtown and is the final resting place for
9		-	some of ~~the~~ city's most notable citizens; and

10	16		WHEREAS, Early Dallas leaders, politicians, veterans, and
11	17		prominent families who helped build the city are buried in
12	18		Oakland Cemetery; however, its owners and managers struggled to
13	19		maintain the site as an ongoing concern, and it was closed in
14	20		2019; and
15	21		WHEREAS, Over the past five years, dedicated volunteers
16	22		have mounted restoration efforts to keep this beautiful
17	23		historical space open and operational and have worked hard to
18	24		obtain historical designation; their efforts have paid off, as
19	25		the cemetery received its historical marker in December 2024;
20	26		visitors can once again see the graves of their ancestors and
21	27		enjoy the cemetery's architecture and magnificent heritage
22	28		trees; now, therefore, be it
23	29		RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
24	30		Legislature, hereby commend all who have worked to preserve the
25	31		history and legacy of Oakland Cemetery and extend best wishes for
26	32		a memorable Texas Historical Marker dedication ceremony; and, be
27	33		it further
28	34		RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an
29	35		expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
