1-SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 311
2- WHEREAS, The volunteers, staff, and board members who make
3- up the Texas Court Appointed Special Advocates network are
4- gathering in Austin on March 27, 2025, for CASA Day at the State
5- Capitol; and
6- WHEREAS, Texas CASA is part of a national volunteer
7- movement that began in 1977 and enlists local community
8- volunteers to support children and families involved in the
9- foster care system; beginning in 1979 with the first CASA program
10- in Dallas, and followed by the formation of Texas CASA in 1989,
11- judges and communities across the state have worked to expand
12- CASA's services; and
13- WHEREAS, Providing 74 local programs in 220 of the state's
14- 254 counties, Texas CASA has grown to become one of the largest
15- such programs in the nation; through their advocacy efforts in
16- the 2024 fiscal year, CASA volunteers made a difference for
17- nearly 18,000 youth by helping to build family connections and
18- working to address each child's mental, medical, and educational
19- needs during their time in foster care; and
20- WHEREAS, CASA volunteers are appointed by a judge to
21- provide valuable information and to make informed
22- recommendations to courts that serve the best interests of each
23- child; and
24- WHEREAS, The CASA network in Texas is dedicated to
25- expanding to reach more children and families while continuously
26- growing in knowledge and practice; these efforts ensure that CASA
27- serves as informed, collaborative partners in an ever-evolving
28- system of care that provides the best possible advocacy and
29- support; and
30- WHEREAS, All those associated with CASA are truly
31- deserving of recognition for their important work and service to
32- the State of Texas, its courts, its children, and its families;
33- now, therefore, be it
34- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
35- Legislature, hereby recognize March 27, 2025, as CASA Day at the
36- State Capitol and commend the organization for its diligent
37- efforts to aid abused and neglected children in the State of
38- Texas; and, be it further
39- RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
40- prepared for CASA as an expression of high regard from the Texas
41- Senate.
