 SENATE RESOLUTION
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize the Rotary Club of Edinburg on the grand occasion of
 the club's 100th anniversary; and
 WHEREAS, Chartered on January 10, 1925, the Rotary Club of
 Edinburg was established by a group of citizens who were
 committed to promoting Rotary International's mission of
 community service; over the last century, the club has supported
 and initiated numerous civic projects that have helped Edinburg
 thrive; and
 WHEREAS, Among its many achievements, the club was
 instrumental in developing the city's Little League Baseball and
 summer athletics programs, and in the 1930s, its members assisted
 in forming Cultural Arts, Incorporated, an initiative that
 brought an array of distinguished speakers and musical
 performances to the community; and
 WHEREAS, The Rotary Club of Edinburg has been the charter
 home for six members who have gone on to become Rotary district
 governors; many of its club presidents share the distinction of
 having fathers who served as presidents or represent the third
 generation of family Rotary leadership; in 1990, the club
 welcomed its first women members, and in 1995, Judy Vinson was
 the first woman elected as club president; and
 WHEREAS, Members of the Rotary Club of Edinburg exemplify
 the highest ideals of civic engagement, and they are truly
 deserving of special recognition for their outstanding
 contributions to making Edinburg a better place to live, work,
 and raise a family; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
 Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Rotary Club of
 Edinburg for upholding a proud and historic tradition of civic
 service and extend to all congratulations on the club's 100th
 anniversary; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 the club as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
