2	8		WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	9		recognize the Rotary Club of Edinburg on the grand occasion of
4	10		the club's 100th anniversary; and
5	11		WHEREAS, Chartered on January 10, 1925, the Rotary Club of
6	12		Edinburg was established by a group of citizens who were
7	13		committed to promoting Rotary International's mission of
8	14		community service; over the last century, the club has supported
9	15		and initiated numerous civic projects that have helped Edinburg
10	16		thrive; and
11	17		WHEREAS, Among its many achievements, the club was
12	18		instrumental in developing the city's Little League Baseball and
13	19		summer athletics programs, and in the 1930s, its members assisted
14	20		in forming Cultural Arts, Incorporated, an initiative that
15	21		brought an array of distinguished speakers and musical
16	22		performances to the community; and
17	23		WHEREAS, The Rotary Club of Edinburg has been the charter
18	24		home for six members who have gone on to become Rotary district
19	25		governors; many of its club presidents share the distinction of
20	26		having fathers who served as presidents or represent the third
21	27		generation of family Rotary leadership; in 1990, the club
22	28		welcomed its first women members, and in 1995, Judy Vinson was
23	29		the first woman elected as club president; and
24	30		WHEREAS, Members of the Rotary Club of Edinburg exemplify
25	31		the highest ideals of civic engagement, and they are truly
26	32		deserving of special recognition for their outstanding
27	33		contributions to making Edinburg a better place to live, work,
28	34		and raise a family; now, therefore, be it
29	35		RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
30	36		Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Rotary Club of
31	37		Edinburg for upholding a proud and historic tradition of civic
32	38		service and extend to all congratulations on the club's 100th
33	39		anniversary; and, be it further
34	40		RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
35	41		the club as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
