28 WHEREAS, Members of the Sheriffs' Association of Texas are
3- gathering in Austin on March 25, 2025, to participate in
4- Sheriffs' Association of Texas Day at the State Capitol; and
9+ gathering in Austin on March 25, 2025, to participate in Sheriffs'
10+ Association of Texas Day at the State Capitol; and
511 WHEREAS, The office of sheriff is one of the oldest in the
612 history of law enforcement; the Texas Constitution created the
7- office in each county of the state, and legislation requires that
8- a sheriff conserve peace and enforce the criminal laws of the
9- state; moreover, the sheriff is responsible for the county jail,
10- bail bonds, civil process, and the security of the courts, and in
11- some smaller counties, the sheriff may also act as the tax
12- collector; and
13- WHEREAS, The Sheriffs' Association of Texas, which is
14- marking its 150th anniversary, is one of the nation's oldest law
13+ office in each county of the state, and legislation requires that a
14+ sheriff conserve peace and enforce the criminal laws of the state;
15+ moreover, the sheriff is responsible for the county jail, bail
16+ bonds, civil process, and the security of the courts, and in some

16- first meeting on August 14, 1874, after McLennan County sheriff
17- Sul Ross, who later became the 19th governor of the Great State of

3136 WHEREAS, The men and women of the Sheriffs' Association of
3237 Texas are helping to make the Lone Star State an even safer place,
33- and their work benefits countless people each day; now,
34- therefore, be it
35- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
36- Legislature, hereby recognize March 25, 2025, as Sheriffs'
37- Association of Texas Day at the State Capitol and commend the
38- members of the organization for their many contributions to their
39- communities and this state; and, be it further
38+ and their work benefits countless people each day; now, therefore,
39+ be it
40+ RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature
41+ hereby recognize March 25, 2025, as Sheriffs' Association of Texas
42+ Day at the State Capitol and commend the members of the organization
43+ for their many contributions to their communities and this state;

4045 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
41- prepared for the Sheriffs' Association of Texas as an expression
