8+ WHEREAS, Representatives of The University of Texas at San
9+ Antonio and The University of Texas Health Science Center at San
10+ Antonio are gathering at the State Capitol on February 4, 2025,
11+ providing a fitting opportunity to congratulate the institutions on
12+ their merger; and
713 WHEREAS, Categorized as an R1 institution by the Carnegie
8- Classification of Institutions of Higher Education, UTSA
9- boasts a rapidly growing portfolio of research in
10- cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, space exploration, and
11- biomedical fields; at the center of one of the largest
12- cybersecurity ecosystems in the nation, the university is home
13- to the National Security Collaboration Center, the
14- Cybersecurity Manufacturing Innovation Institute, and the
15- School of Data Science, the first of its kind in Texas;
16- demonstrating a commitment to high-impact research and applied
17- technology development, the university is launching the
14+ Classification of Institutions of Higher Education, UTSA boasts a
15+ rapidly growing portfolio of research in cybersecurity, artificial
16+ intelligence, space exploration, and biomedical fields; at the
17+ center of one of the largest cybersecurity ecosystems in the
18+ nation, the university is home to the National Security
19+ Collaboration Center, the Cybersecurity Manufacturing Innovation
20+ Institute, and the School of Data Science, the first of its kind in
21+ Texas; demonstrating a commitment to high-impact research and
22+ applied technology development, the university is launching the
1823 College of AI, Cyber, and Computing in fall 2025; and
1924 WHEREAS, UT Health San Antonio is a nationally ranked
2025 academic health center with six professional health education
21- schools; it is also a global leader for clinical medicine
22- research, including in such specialties as cancer, aging,
23- Alzheimer's and dementia, infectious diseases, and mental and
24- behavioral health; and
25- WHEREAS, In summer 2025, UTSA and UT Health San Antonio
26- will combine to become the third-largest public research
27- university in the state; the new entity will encompass more than
28- 40,000 students, nearly 16,000 employees, $467 million in
29- research expenditures, a $2.2 billion budget, and a $1.1 billion
30- endowment; its direct economic impact to Texas is estimated to be
31- over $6 billion; and
32- WHEREAS, UTSA and UT Health San Antonio partnered to
33- create the UT School of Public Health San Antonio, which
34- educates professionals who identify health trends, develop
35- prevention strategies, and implement programs to address
36- health issues across populations; another collaboration of
37- UTSA and UT Health, the San Antonio Life Sciences Institute has
38- expanded the state's health sciences workforce in the areas of
39- neuroscience, cancer prevention, infectious disease, and
40- regenerative medicine; and

46- community and beyond; now, therefore, be it
47- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
48- Legislature, hereby recognize February 4, 2025, as UTSA and UT
49- Health San Antonio Day at the State Capitol and extend a warm
50- welcome to the visiting delegation.
