28 WHEREAS, The Lufkin High School Panther Band continued its
39 proud tradition of excellence by claiming the Class 5A/6A state
410 championship at the 2024 University Interscholastic League State
511 Military Class Marching Band Contest on October 30; and
612 WHEREAS, Joining other top competitors from across the Lone
713 Star State at Baylor University McLane Stadium in Waco, the Lufkin
814 High band members achieved a total score of nine ordinals to take
915 home the coveted state title; for the competition, the ensemble
1016 performed "Legacy Fanfare" by Timothy Rhea, "Gloria March" by
1117 F. H. Losey, "The Viking March" and "The Purple Pageant March" by
1218 K. L. King, and "The Sinfonians" by Clifton Williams; and
1319 WHEREAS, This latest victory marks the third consecutive
1420 state championship for the Panther Band; Lufkin High also collected
1521 National Association of Military Marching Bands state titles in
1622 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2019 before the UIL began sponsoring the
1723 state event; and
1824 WHEREAS, The Panther Band is made up of 139 students;
1925 throughout the year, these talented performers benefit from the
20- leadership of Lufkin High School's band director, George Little, and
21- assistant directors Brandon Beavers, Aubrianne Wattigney, Tommy
22- Smith, Hannah Terral, and Jonathan Palomino; participants also took
23- their cues from drum majors Lucy Lantis and Maddie Minter; and
26+ leadership of Lufkin High School's band director, George Little,
27+ and assistant directors Brandon Beavers, Aubrianne Wattigney,
28+ Tommy Smith, Hannah Terral, and Jonathan Palomino; participants
29+ also took their cues from drum majors Lucy Lantis and Maddie Minter;

2431 WHEREAS, By accomplishing the rare feat of winning three
2532 consecutive state titles, the members of the Lufkin High School
2633 Panther Band have burnished their reputation as a marching band
2734 dynasty, and their accomplishments are a source of great pride to
2835 their school and their many supporters in the community; now,
2936 therefore, be it
30- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
31- Legislature, hereby congratulate the Lufkin High School Panther
32- Band on winning the 5A/6A championship at the 2024 UIL State
33- Military Class Marching Band Contest and extend to all those
34- associated with the ensemble sincere best wishes for continued
35- success; and, be it further
37+ RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature
38+ hereby congratulate the Lufkin High School Panther Band on winning
39+ the 5A/6A championship at the 2024 UIL State Military Class
40+ Marching Band Contest and extend to all those associated with the
41+ ensemble sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it
42+ further
