26 WHEREAS, VIVA San Antonio Day is taking place at the State
37 Capitol on March 26, 2025, and this occasion provides a welcome
48 opportunity to honor San Antonio residents for the important
59 contributions they are making to the Lone Star State; and
610 WHEREAS, The history of San Antonio can be traced back to
7- 1691, when a group of Spanish explorers and missionaries came
8- upon a river and named it San Antonio, in honor of Saint Anthony,
9- whose feast day was being celebrated; and

1014 WHEREAS, The city was founded in 1718 by Father Antonio
11- Olivares; he established Mission San Antonio de Valero, which

13- the site where 189 brave defenders held the mission for 13 days
14- against an army of some 4,000 Mexican soldiers; the cry "Remember
15- the Alamo" became the rallying point of the Texas Revolution;
16- today, the Alamo is a shrine and museum and is widely recognized
17- as the cradle of Texas liberty; and
18- WHEREAS, San Antonio was formally incorporated in 1837,
19- when the fledgling Republic of Texas granted the city a charter;
20- the community retains its sense of history and tradition while
21- carefully blending in cosmopolitan progress; it continues to
22- serve as a crossroads and a meeting place, where the rich
23- cultural influences of Native Americans, Old Mexico, German
24- immigrants, the Wild West, African Americans, and the Deep South
25- mingle and merge; and
26- WHEREAS, Known as Military City USA, San Antonio has a
27- proud military heritage, and great figures like Pershing,
28- Stilwell, Krueger, LeMay, Chennault, and Eisenhower served at
29- San Antonio military installations; today, the armed forces
30- facilities in the city include Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam
31- Houston, the headquarters for the U.S. Army North and U.S. Army
32- South, and JBSA-Randolph, the home of the Air Education and
33- Training Command, the Air Force Recruiting Service, and the Air
34- Force Personnel Center; in addition, the city is the site of
35- JBSA-Lackland, the headquarters of the Air Force Installation
36- and Mission Support Center and home to the largest training wing
37- in the United States Air Force, which instructs all incoming
38- airmen in basic military training, along with vital National
39- Guard and Air Force Reserve missions; and

55- WHEREAS, San Antonio has one of the largest concentrations
56- of cybersecurity professionals in the United States, with a
57- diverse workforce and globally competitive cybersecurity
58- ecosystem that is strategically organized through CyberSecurity
59- San Antonio; and
55+ advocates for the business community and are dedicated to building
56+ and sustaining San Antonio's diverse and prosperous economy,
57+ particularly in the major local industries of health care,
58+ manufacturing, aerospace, and information technology; and
59+ WHEREAS, San Antonio has one of the largest concentrations of
60+ cybersecurity professionals in the United States, with a diverse
61+ workforce and globally competitive cybersecurity ecosystem that is
62+ strategically organized through CyberSecurity San Antonio; and
6063 WHEREAS, Many people delight in visiting San Antonio each
6164 year; in addition to the Alamo, highlights include La Villita,
6265 San Fernando Cathedral, the San Antonio Mission Trails, and the
6366 famed Paseo del Rio, also known as the River Walk; among the other
6467 attractions that make San Antonio one of the top tourist
6568 destinations in the country are SeaWorld San Antonio and the Six
66- Flags Fiesta Texas theme park, as well as the PGA Tour Valero
67- Texas Open, the Valero Alamo Bowl, and the five-time world
68- champion San Antonio Spurs; and

75- WHEREAS, A city of great historical, cultural, and
76- economic importance, San Antonio is one of the treasures of the
77- Lone Star State, and its citizens may indeed take great pride in
78- the place they call home; now, therefore, be it
79- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
80- Legislature, hereby recognize March 26, 2025, as VIVA San Antonio
81- Day at the State Capitol and extend to the city's residents
