8+ WHEREAS, The Capitol community is mourning the loss of Gordon
9+ Robert Johnson, who passed away on March 16, 2025, at the age of 63;
10+ and
811 WHEREAS, The son of Judith Cissna Scott Johnson and Robert
912 Ellis Johnson, Gordon Johnson was born in Dallas on December 26,
1013 1961; his family moved to Austin when he was a child, and he
11- practically grew up at the Capitol, where his father served as
12- House parliamentarian and as executive director of the Texas
13- Legislative Council; after earning a bachelor's degree in
14- engineering from Texas A&M University and a law degree from South
15- Texas College of Law, he practiced briefly in Houston; he spent
16- the rest of his career in the family law firm, Johnson and
17- Johnson, representing clients in both the public and private
18- sectors; and
14+ practically grew up at the Capitol, where his father served as House
15+ parliamentarian and as executive director of the Texas Legislative
16+ Council; after earning a bachelor's degree in engineering from
17+ Texas A&M University and a law degree from South Texas College of

1921 WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson had a deep understanding of the inner

22- numerous public officials, he served for many years as political
23- director for House speaker Joe Straus, and he was instrumental in
24- securing passage of the Texas Racing Act and other key
25- legislation; good-natured and generous with his time and
26- knowledge, he was a mentor to many; and

40- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
41- Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Gordon Robert
42- Johnson and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family:
43- to his wife, Julie Hull Johnson; to his son, Reed Johnson, and his
44- wife, Taylor; to his grandchild, Jemma Johnson; to his siblings,
45- Robert Ellis Johnson Jr. and his wife, Teresa, Stanley Scott
46- Johnson, and Karen Johnson Pounds; to his stepchildren, Jennifer
47- Coffee O'Neill, Elizabeth Coffee McQueen, Dr. Katherine Coffee
48- Janus, and Benjamin Coffee; and to his many other relatives and
49- friends; and, be it further
42+ RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature
43+ hereby pay tribute to the life of Gordon Robert Johnson and extend
