7+ SENATE RESOLUTION
28 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
39 recognize Texas Electric Cooperatives, Incorporated, on the
410 occasion of its 85th anniversary; and
511 WHEREAS, In the early 1930s, only one in 10 American farms
612 benefited from electricity, and economic opportunity remained
713 limited in rural communities that relied on kerosene lamps and
814 other physical sources of power to operate machinery and navigate
915 at night; the establishment of the Rural Electrification
1016 Administration by President Franklin Roosevelt empowered farmers
1117 and ranchers to aggregate their resources and improve their
1218 quality of life through the creation of nonprofit electric
1319 utilities owned and controlled by local residents; and
1420 WHEREAS, In 1940, rural leaders chartered the Texas Power
1521 Reserve Electric Cooperative, the forerunner of Texas Electric
1622 Cooperatives, by purchasing wholesale electricity on behalf of
1723 local distribution cooperatives to maximize the buying power of
1824 rural communities and lower the cost of service for rural
1925 consumers; and
20- WHEREAS, Over the past 85 years, Texas Electric Cooperatives
21- has helped strengthen member organizations through the provision
22- of safety training, governmental relations services, strategic
23- sourcing agreements for utility equipment and technology, and the
24- distribution of electrical system components; its long-running
25- communications publication, Texas Co-op Power, reaches more than
26- four million readers every month; and
27- WHEREAS, Texas Electric Cooperatives comprises 76 electric
28- cooperatives that are guided by the principles of cooperation,
29- democratic member control, and concern for community to provide
30- energy to rural and suburban areas in 241 counties, and it is
31- truly fitting to recognize this exemplary organization for
32- promoting strength and resilience in meeting the energy,
33- information, and materials needs of rural Texans; now,
34- therefore, be it
26+ WHEREAS, Over the past 85 years, Texas Electric
27+ Cooperatives has helped strengthen member organizations through
28+ the provision of safety training, governmental relations
29+ services, strategic sourcing agreements for utility equipment
30+ and technology, and the distribution of electrical system
31+ components; its long-running communications publication, Texas
32+ Co-op Power, reaches more than four million readers every month;
33+ and
34+ WHEREAS, Texas Electric Cooperatives comprises 76
35+ electric cooperatives that are guided by the principles of
36+ cooperation, democratic member control, and concern for
37+ community to provide energy to rural and suburban areas in 241
38+ counties, and it is truly fitting to recognize this exemplary
39+ organization for promoting strength and resilience in meeting
40+ the energy, information, and materials needs of rural Texans;
41+ now, therefore, be it
3542 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
3643 Legislature, hereby commend Texas Electric Cooperatives,
3744 Incorporated, for its long history of success in powering Texas
3845 communities and extend to its members congratulations on the
3946 organization's 85th anniversary; and, be it further
40- RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
41- organization as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
