SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 342
WHEREAS, Maria Guadalupe Ortiz of Corpus Christi is
celebrating her 100th birthday on April 22, 2025, and this joyous
occasion provides a welcome opportunity for family and friends to
express the love and affection they hold for her; and
WHEREAS, In 1925, Lupe Ortiz was born in Robstown; on
March 2, 1952, she exchanged wedding vows with Augustin "Tex"
Villarreal; blessed with five children, the couple shared a
rewarding marriage that spanned 57 years before Mr. Villarreal's
death in 2009; today, this beloved woman is the proud matriarch
of a fine family that has grown to include many grandchildren and
great-grandchildren, and she takes pleasure in engaging with her
loved ones through the activity of coloring; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Ortiz and her husband both worked for the
Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District, and she
distinguished herself over the course of her 44-year tenure; in
retirement, she and Mr. Villarreal enjoyed traveling together
and cherished time spent with their family above all else; a
woman of faith, she is a longtime member of St. Theresa Catholic
Church; and
WHEREAS, Lupe Ortiz is a source of tremendous inspiration,
and in sharing the experience gained through a century of life
well lived, she bestows a precious gift of wisdom that benefits
all who are fortunate enough to know her; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
Legislature, hereby congratulate Maria Guadalupe Ortiz on her
100th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for
continued happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
prepared for Lupe Ortiz as an expression of high regard from the
Texas Senate.
