| 5 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Established in 1986, the Feeding Texas network |

| 6 | 12 | | consists of 20 food banks that collaborate with more than 3,000 |

| 7 | 13 | | community agencies to reduce hunger and improve health in all 254 |

| 8 | 14 | | Texas counties; and |
|---|
| 9 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Feeding Texas upholds its charitable mission |
|---|
| 10 | 16 | | through numerous public-private partnerships, including working |
|---|
| 11 | 17 | | with the Texas Department of Agriculture to administer the Texans |
|---|
| 12 | 18 | | Feeding Texans Surplus Agricultural Products Grant Program; this |
|---|
| 13 | 19 | | highly successful initiative helps feed low-income families by |
|---|
| 14 | 20 | | offering incentives to growers to donate fresh produce, and it |
|---|
| 15 | 21 | | has resulted in the distribution of 500 million pounds of surplus |
|---|
| 16 | 22 | | produce across the state; and |
|---|
| 17 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Members of Feeding Texas also have teamed up with |
|---|
| 18 | 24 | | the Texas Health and Human Services Commission to offer nutrition |
|---|
| 19 | 25 | | education and disease prevention services; through the |
|---|
| 20 | 26 | | partnership, the network has increased the efficiency and |
|---|
| 21 | 27 | | efficacy for existing clients and has provided application |
|---|
| 22 | 28 | | assistance with the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program; |
|---|
| 23 | 29 | | and |
|---|
| 24 | 30 | | WHEREAS, By leveraging their expertise and experience, |
|---|
| 25 | 31 | | network food banks are able to respond swiftly to families in |
|---|
| 26 | 32 | | times of crisis, and during the COVID-19 pandemic, they delivered |
|---|
| 27 | 33 | | more than two billion pounds of food to Texans in need; and |
|---|
| 28 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Feeding Texas is reducing hunger while |
|---|
| 29 | 35 | | contributing greatly to the health and well-being of the people |
|---|
| 30 | 36 | | of the Lone Star State, and all who help to advance its worthwhile |
|---|
| 31 | 37 | | efforts are truly deserving of recognition; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 32 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th |

| 33 | 39 | | Legislature, hereby commend the staff and volunteers of Feeding |
