8 | 14 | | University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is an award-winning |

9 | 15 | | institution that has conveyed more than 56,000 degrees since |

10 | 16 | | opening its doors in 2015; and |

11 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Significant accomplishments during the |

12 | 18 | | university's first decade of operation include adding 42 new |
---|
13 | 19 | | bachelor's, master's, doctoral, and professional degree programs |
---|
14 | 20 | | and an increase in research expenditures of nearly 600 percent; |
---|
15 | 21 | | ongoing student success is reflected in the university's |
---|
16 | 22 | | record-breaking enrollment, retention, and graduation rates; and |
---|
17 | 23 | | WHEREAS, This exemplary institution made historic strides |
---|
18 | 24 | | in medical education when it opened the only school of medicine |
---|
19 | 25 | | in South Texas in 2016, and it has since expanded quality health |
---|
20 | 26 | | care services in the region with 25 clinical care sites |
---|
21 | 27 | | throughout the Rio Grande Valley; and |
---|
22 | 28 | | WHEREAS, The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley opened |
---|
23 | 29 | | the state's first School of Podiatric Medicine in 2022 and will |
---|
24 | 30 | | further expand student opportunities with the opening of the |
---|
25 | 31 | | region's first comprehensive academic cancer and surgery center |
---|
26 | 32 | | in 2025 and the state's second School of Optometry in 2027; and |
---|
27 | 33 | | WHEREAS, In 2021, the university's Student Government |
---|
28 | 34 | | Association executed a student referendum that would enhance |
---|
29 | 35 | | campus life by adding a Division I Football Championship |
---|
30 | 36 | | Subdivision team and other programs, and in the fall of 2025, the |
---|
31 | 37 | | football team will kick off its inaugural season and establish |
---|
32 | 38 | | the first Division I college football program at the university |
---|
33 | 39 | | and in the region; and |
---|
34 | 40 | | WHEREAS, The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley has |

35 | 41 | | earned national acclaim for its commitment to value, social |

36 | 42 | | mobility, and economic impact and has been ranked the number one |

37 | 43 | | university in Texas in 2023 and 2024 by Washington Monthly |

38 | 44 | | magazine and the number one best public university in Texas for |

39 | 45 | | value and social mobility by the Wall Street Journal; the school |

40 | 46 | | has further gained recognition as a community engaged university |

41 | 47 | | by the Carnegie Foundation; now, therefore, be it |
