2- WHEREAS, Proud citizens from Denton County are gathering
3- in Austin on April 2 and 3, 2025, to celebrate Denton County Days
4- at the State Capitol; and
5- WHEREAS, Located in North Texas and serving as the gateway
6- to the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Denton County was created from the
7- Peters colony grant by the Texas Legislature in 1846 and named
8- for pioneer preacher, lawyer, and soldier John Bunyan Denton; the
9- early years of the county saw its emergence as an agricultural
10- center, and the arrival of the railroads in the 1880s ensured
11- that the region's wheat and cotton would find distribution across
12- the country; and

8+ WHEREAS, Proud citizens from Denton County are gathering in
9+ Austin on April 2 and 3, 2025, to celebrate Denton County Days at
10+ the State Capitol; and
11+ WHEREAS, Located in North Texas and serving as the gateway to
12+ the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Denton County was created from the
13+ Peters colony grant by the Texas Legislature in 1846 and named for
14+ pioneer preacher, lawyer, and soldier John Bunyan Denton; the early
15+ years of the county saw its emergence as an agricultural center, and
16+ the arrival of the railroads in the 1880s ensured that the region's
17+ wheat and cotton would find distribution across the country; and
1318 WHEREAS, The county has experienced remarkable growth in
14- recent years, and with a population of more than one million and
15- an estimated 90 people moving in each day, Denton is one of the
16- fastest-growing counties in the nation; it continues to expand
17- job opportunities for its residents, maintaining a low
18- unemployment rate, and its welcoming business climate has drawn a
19- number of corporations as well, including Sally Beauty Holdings,
20- Target, WinCo, Safran, and Peterbilt Motors; and
21- WHEREAS, The city of Denton, the county seat, is home to
22- the University of North Texas and Texas Woman's University, which
23- were founded as Texas Normal College and Girls' Industrial
24- College in 1890 and 1903, respectively; nearby Corinth hosts the
25- largest campus of North Central Texas College, which offers
26- technical and occupational classes to residents throughout the
27- county and beyond, and the area is further served by 11 public
28- school districts educating thousands of young Texans; and
29- WHEREAS, Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy the wilderness of
30- the North Texas Greenbelt and recreational opportunities
31- afforded by Lakes Grapevine, Lewisville, and Ray Roberts; other
32- attractions include the Denton County Historical Park, the
33- architecture of the Denton County Courthouse-on-the-Square, and
34- the North Texas Fairgrounds, which is home to the North Texas
35- Fair & Rodeo; moreover, the county is part of North Texas Horse
36- Country, which is one of the largest regions for horse breeding
37- and training in the southwestern United States; the county also
38- boasts the second-largest sports facility in the nation, the
39- Texas Motor Speedway, which draws hundreds of thousands of race
40- fans each year, as well as the PGA of America national
41- headquarters; and
42- WHEREAS, The citizens of this notable North Texas county
43- are working to preserve the best of their past even as they look
44- forward to a bright and promising future, and they are sure to
45- figure prominently in the story of the Lone Star State in the
46- years ahead; now, therefore, be it
47- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
48- Legislature, hereby recognize April 2 and 3, 2025, as Denton
49- County Days at the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the
50- visiting delegation.
