2	8		WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	9		recognize the students from member institutions of The Texas A&M
4	10		University System who are providing valuable support to the
5	11		senate during the 89th Legislative Session as members of the
6	12		Agricultural and Natural Resources Policy Internship Program,
7	13		the Public Policy Internship Program, the Bush School of
8	14		Government and Public Service Capstone Scholars Program, and the
9	15		Tarleton State University internship program; and
10	16		WHEREAS, For more than three decades, the Agricultural and
11	17		Natural Resources Policy Internship Program has sent students
12	18		from Texas A&M University College of Agriculture and Life
13	19		Sciences to Austin, Washington, D.C., and abroad, where they work
14	20		on a wide array of issues; their strong background and interest
15	21		in agriculture and natural resources allow them to offer
16	22		specialized knowledge to the offices they serve, and over 1,000
17	23		students have participated in this program to date; the current
18	24		Agricultural and Natural Resources Policy Internship Program
19	25		interns are Caitlin Castro, Braden Clampit, and Aiden Hunter; and
20	26		WHEREAS, The Texas A&M University Public Policy Internship
21	27		Program, established in 1999, invites students across all Texas
22	28		A&M University degree programs to create an interdisciplinary
23	29		environment for comprehensive academic training, research, and
24	30		policy programming; interns in the nation's capital, in Austin,
25	31		and abroad serve in a variety of settings that align with their
26	32		professional goals; some 1,000 students have participated in
27	33		this program to date; the current Public Policy Internship
28		-	Program interns are Jonathan Amason, Campbell Beresford, Dastan
29		-	Bigarli, Jareli Cavazos, Annie Mosis, Georgia Page, Haylee
30		-	Plumley, David Taravella, Owen Thompson, and Ezra Villarreal;

32	37		WHEREAS, Starting with the 82nd Legislative Session, the
33	38		Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M
34	39		University has sent a select group of graduate students, known as
35	40		Capstone Scholars, to work in the legislature; these students,
36	41		most of whom intend to work in government positions when they
37	42		graduate, bring knowledge, skills, and motivation to their
38	43		respective offices; their legislative experiences add greatly to
39	44		their professional development and benefit the state in myriad
40	45		ways; the current Bush School Capstone interns are Julia
41	46		Patterson and Kirsten Stewart; and
42	47		WHEREAS, Since 2010, Tarleton State University has sent
43	48		numerous interns to Austin and Washington, D.C., where they work
44	49		on an array of issues; their strong background and interest in
45	50		such topics as public policy, history, education, criminal
46	51		justice, health care, and agriculture equip them to offer
47	52		specialized knowledge to legislators; the current Tarleton
48	53		intern is Lacy Malone; and
49	54		WHEREAS, Through the years, these programs have helped
50	55		exceptional students deepen their understanding of legislative
51	56		processes and general government functionality while developing
52	57		important professional skills and critical peer networks, and
53	58		past program participants have gone on to make vital
54	59		contributions and assume leadership roles in a variety of arenas;
55	60		these outstanding young people who are serving with the utmost
56	61		integrity and are giving of their time and talents throughout
57	62		this legislative session may indeed take pride in their
58	63		achievements and their selfless service to the Lone Star State;
59	64		now, therefore, be it
60	65		RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
61	66		Legislature, hereby recognize The Texas A&M University System
62	67		policy interns and commend the current participants for their
63	68		diligence and commitment to excellence; and, be it further
64	69		RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
65	70		the students as an expression of high regard from the Texas
66	71		Senate.
