	7	+	WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close on May
	8	+	3, 2024, with the passing of Clyde Vance Dunnam of Waco at the age
	9	+	of 94; and
8	10		WHEREAS, Born in Waco on November 6, 1929, Vance Dunnam
9	11		grew up in Speegleville and graduated from Waco High School; he
10	12		earned his bachelor's degree from Baylor University in 1951 and
11	13		his juris doctor degree from Baylor Law School the following
12	14		year; and
13	15		WHEREAS, After obtaining his admission to the bar and a
14	16		short stint working for a Houston oil company, Mr. Dunnam joined
15	17		his father and brother at Dunnam & Dunnam, LLP, where he worked
16	18		for seven decades; over the course of his career, he earned a
17	19		reputation as one of the most skilled and successful trial
18	20		attorneys in Central Texas; he served as a mentor to hundreds of
19	21		colleagues and further contributed to his professional community
20	22		as president of the McLennan County Junior Bar Association and
21	23		the Waco-McLennan County Bar Association; through the years, he
22	24		had the pleasure of practicing with a number of family members,
23	25		and he worked up until the last weeks of his life; and
24	26		WHEREAS, In 1952, Mr. Dunnam married Vicki Hohertz, and
25	27		they shared in the joy of raising three children, Vance, Cathy,
26	28		and Jim; after his wife's death in 1995, he found love again with
27	29		Merrilee Lafferty Harmon, whom he wed in 1997; with the passing
28	30		years, he delighted in watching his cherished family grow to
29	31		include numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and
30	32		WHEREAS, Active in his community, Mr. Dunnam held
31	33		leadership positions in several organizations, including the
32	34		Scottish Rite, the York Rite, and the Karem Shrine as well as the
33	35		Waco Jaycees and the Knights of Pythias; he was also a man of
34	36		faith and a lifelong member of the Methodist Church, where he
35	37		taught Sunday school for many years; in his leisure time, he
36	38		enjoyed cattle and hay ranching, sailing, riding his motorcycle,
37	39		fly-fishing, beekeeping, hunting, and any time that he could
38	40		spend with his children and grandchildren; and
39	41		WHEREAS, Mr. Dunnam especially took pride in the history
40	42		and success of Dunnam & Dunnam, LLP, where he worked for most of
41	43		his career, even up until a few weeks before his passing, and he
42	44		truly loved the fact that he successfully instilled the same
43	45		pride in his children and grandchildren; and
44	46		WHEREAS, Mr. Dunnam could not have been more loyal to his
45	47		lifelong friends and employees, no matter their politics, race,
46	48		or religion; in addition, he also worked tirelessly to mend all
47	49		fences with those who might have become estranged; and
48	50		WHEREAS, Although Vance Dunnam is deeply missed, memories
49	51		of his wisdom, his sense of humor, and his generosity remain to
50	52		comfort and inspire those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it
51	53		RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
52	54		Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Clyde Vance Dunnam
53	55		and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
54	56		wife, Merrilee L. Harmon; to his children, Vance Dunnam Jr. and
55	57		his wife, Irma, Cathy Dunnam Pleitz and her husband, Dan, and Jim
56	58		Dunnam and his wife, Michelle; to his grandchildren, Vanessa,
57	59		Jennifer, Stephanie, Joshua, Jacob, Jordan, Lauren, Mason, and
58	60		Rachel; to his 12 great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives
59	61		and friends; and, be it further
60	62		RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
61	63		prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
62	64		this day, it do so in memory of Vance Dunnam.
