2- WHEREAS, Proud citizens of Mesquite are gathering in
3- Austin on April 8, 2025, to celebrate Mesquite Day at the State
4- Capitol; and
5- WHEREAS, Located in Dallas and Kaufman Counties,
6- Mesquite started as a depot town by the Texas and Pacific
7- Railway in May 1873; named after nearby Mesquite Creek, the
8- city was officially incorporated on December 3, 1887, and it
9- largely had an agrarian economy in its early days, growing
10- cotton, hay, corn, and sugar; and
11- WHEREAS, Today, Mesquite is a vibrant and diverse city with
12- a population of some 155,000; part of the Dallas-Fort Worth

8+ WHEREAS, Proud citizens of Mesquite are gathering in Austin
9+ on April 8, 2025, to celebrate Mesquite Day at the State Capitol;
10+ and
11+ WHEREAS, Located in Dallas and Kaufman Counties, Mesquite
12+ started as a depot town by the Texas and Pacific Railway in May
13+ 1873; named after nearby Mesquite Creek, the city was officially
14+ incorporated on December 3, 1887, and it largely had an agrarian
15+ economy in its early days, growing cotton, hay, corn, and sugar; and
16+ WHEREAS, Today, Mesquite is a vibrant and diverse city with a
17+ population of some 155,000; part of the Dallas-Fort Worth
1318 metroplex, the town boasts a welcoming business environment
1419 facilitated by easy access to four major highways, the Mesquite
15- Metro Airport, and the Union Pacific Intermodal; the city
16- recently expanded to include the Trinity Pointe area in Kaufman
17- County, and as it grows, an estimated 10,000 new homes will be
18- developed by the end of 2030 to accommodate new residents; and

24- recent years, three international renewable energy companies
25- have established facilities in the community, resulting in the
26- creation of more than 2,800 jobs; moreover, the city was
27- recognized by the Dallas Business Journal for the $1.1 billion in
28- private commercial investment that it received in 2023; and
26+ production technology, and creative products; the city also serves
27+ as a regional retail hub that is anchored by Town East Mall, and it
28+ is home to the Dallas Regional Medical Center; in recent years,

33- by 21 members of Leadership Mesquite, a program sponsored by the

38+ 21 members of Leadership Mesquite, a program sponsored by the
3439 Mesquite Chamber of Commerce that is now in its 30th year of

36- WHEREAS, Residents and visitors alike enjoy the
37- recreational opportunities afforded by the Mesquite Golf Club as
38- well as access to 76 public parks and 17 miles of public trails
39- connecting to Dallas and Garland; the Mesquite Arts Center, which
40- opened in 1995, houses a music performance hall, black box
41- theater, rehearsal hall, and galleries; and
41+ WHEREAS, Residents and visitors alike enjoy the recreational
42+ opportunities afforded by the Mesquite Golf Club as well as access
43+ to 76 public parks and 17 miles of public trails connecting to
44+ Dallas and Garland; the Mesquite Arts Center, which opened in 1995,
45+ houses a music performance hall, black box theater, rehearsal hall,

4247 WHEREAS, In 1993, the 73rd Texas Legislature recognized
4348 Mesquite as the Rodeo Capital of Texas; each year, the city hosts
44- the Mesquite Championship Rodeo, which was established in 1958
45- and has been recognized by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys
46- Association with its Small Rodeo of the Year Award; moreover, the
47- town boasts a professional soccer team, the Texas Outlaws; and
48- WHEREAS, The citizens of Mesquite take great pleasure in
49- the city's high quality of life, and they continue to make vital
49+ the Mesquite Championship Rodeo, which was established in 1958 and
50+ has been recognized by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association
51+ with its Small Rodeo of the Year Award; moreover, the town boasts a
52+ professional soccer team, the Texas Outlaws; and
53+ WHEREAS, The citizens of Mesquite take great pleasure in the
54+ city's high quality of life, and they continue to make vital

52- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
53- Legislature, hereby recognize April 8, 2025, as Mesquite Day at
54- the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the visiting
55- delegation.
