2	8		WHEREAS, Devarjaye "DJ" Daniel is visiting the Texas State
3	9		Capitol on April 7, 2025, and this occasion provides a welcome
4	10		opportunity to recognize the passion and determination of this
5	11		exceptional young Texan and honorary law enforcement officer; and
6	12		WHEREAS, A native of the Houston area, 13-year-old DJ first
7	13		became interested in police work after officers assisted his family
8	14		during Hurricane Harvey in 2017; he was diagnosed with a rare form
9	15		of brain cancer the following year, and though he was told that he
10	16		might only have months to live, he refused to give up hope; drawing
11	17		strength from his religious faith, he has endured clinical trials
12	18		and more than a dozen rounds of brain surgery in the years since he
13	19		was diagnosed, and he has far exceeded his doctor's initial
14	20		prognosis; and
15	21		WHEREAS, In the course of his treatment, DJ began visiting
16	22		law enforcement agencies, inspired by his fellow childhood cancer
17	23		patient, Abigail Arias, who was appointed as an honorary officer by
18	24		the Freeport Police Department before her death in 2019; in memory
19	25		of Abigail, DJ set a goal of being sworn in as an honorary officer
20	26		with 758 agencies, a tribute to Abigail's badge number; he has far
21	27		exceeded that total and has been honored by more than 900
22	28		departments around the country to date; and
23	29		WHEREAS, On March 4, 2025, DJ attained an even more
24	30		impressive designation when he became an honorary United States
25	31		Secret Service agent; President Donald J. Trump announced his
26	32		appointment during the president's joint address to Congress, with
27	33		DJ and his father, Theodis, in attendance; DJ plans to continue his
28	34		mission and hopes to set a Guinness World Record by being sworn in
29	35		by 1,000 agencies; and
30		-	WHEREAS, Through his efforts to raise awareness of
31		-	~~childhood~~ cancer and to support law enforcement officers across
32		-	~~the nation,~~ DJ Daniel has set an inspiring example of resilience,
33		-	~~courage, and~~ selflessness, and the members of the Texas Senate
34		-	~~are honored to~~ welcome him to Austin; now, therefore, be it
35		-	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the ~~State of~~ Texas~~, 89th~~
36		-	~~Legislature,~~ hereby recognize April 7, 2025, as DJ Daniel Day at
37		-	~~the State~~ Capitol and extend to Devarjaye "DJ" Daniel heartfelt
38		-	~~best wishes~~ for the future; and, be it further
