28 WHEREAS, Proud residents of the city of Donna are gathering
39 in Austin on April 10, 2025, to celebrate Donna Day at the State
410 Capitol; and
511 WHEREAS, Situated in the heart of the Rio Grande Valley,
6- Donna is located on land that was bequeathed to Lino Cabazos by
7- the Mexican state of Tamaulipas in 1834, and members of the
8- Cabazos family continued to live in the area over the ensuing
9- decades; settlers from northern states began arriving at the turn
10- of the 20th century; among them was Thomas Jefferson Hooks, who
11- helped found the La Blanca Agricultural Company, which purchased
12- 23,000 acres of land, and the town was founded in 1904; three
13- years later, the community was named in honor of Donna Hooks
14- Fletcher, the daughter of Mr. Hooks; and

20- WHEREAS, Today, Donna is home to more than 16,000 people,
21- and its economy is bolstered by the retail, educational services,
22- and tourism industries in addition to agriculture; area youth
23- benefit from the award-winning Donna Independent School
24- District, which provides its students with the academic
25- opportunities necessary to build a strong foundation for future
26- success; and

38- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
39- Legislature, hereby recognize April 10, 2025, as Donna Day at the
40- State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the visiting
41- delegation.
