SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 386
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize members of the Barbara Jordan Leadership Institute as
they gather at the State Capitol in Austin on April 8, 2025; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 2020, the Barbara Jordan Leadership
Institute is a nonpartisan organization that works to strengthen
the current generation of Black leaders while preparing and
uplifting the next; led by Black women who are driven by their
lived experiences and committed to community-based leadership in
action, the institute offers training, mentorship, and support
to Black communities throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex,
East Texas, and the Greater Houston area; and
WHEREAS, The institute seeks to broaden representation in
leadership and demonstrates the power of collective action
through voter education, advocacy, and leadership development;
the Fellowship Program is a key initiative of the institute and
is designed to involve college students and community members in
the electoral process through voter registration and civic
engagement initiatives at institutions including Jarvis
Christian University, Lamar University, Prairie View A&M
University, Stephen F. Austin State University, Texas Southern
University, and Thurgood Marshall School of Law; and
WHEREAS, The Barbara Jordan Leadership Institute is
dedicated to shaping a future in which diverse leadership fosters
fair, safe, and prosperous communities, and this special day
serves as a fitting opportunity to amplify the voices of those
historically underrepresented in policymaking and to promote
civic participation, advocacy, and leadership development among
our state's emerging Black leaders; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
Legislature, hereby commend the Barbara Jordan Leadership
Institute on its vital contributions to democracy in Texas and
extend to all best wishes for a memorable and rewarding day at the
State Capitol; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
honor of this special occasion.
