77 SENATE RESOLUTION
88 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
99 recognize members of the Barbara Jordan Leadership Institute as
1010 they gather at the State Capitol in Austin on April 8, 2025; and
1111 WHEREAS, Founded in 2020, the Barbara Jordan Leadership
1212 Institute is a nonpartisan organization that works to strengthen
1313 the current generation of Black leaders while preparing and
1414 uplifting the next; led by Black women who are driven by their
1515 lived experiences and committed to community-based leadership in
1616 action, the institute offers training, mentorship, and support
1717 to Black communities throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex,
1818 East Texas, and the Greater Houston area; and
1919 WHEREAS, The institute seeks to broaden representation in
2020 leadership and demonstrates the power of collective action
2121 through voter education, advocacy, and leadership development;
2222 the Fellowship Program is a key initiative of the institute and
2323 is designed to involve college students and community members in
2424 the electoral process through voter registration and civic
2525 engagement initiatives at institutions including Jarvis
2626 Christian University, Lamar University, Prairie View A&M
2727 University, Stephen F. Austin State University, Texas Southern
2828 University, and Thurgood Marshall School of Law; and
2929 WHEREAS, The Barbara Jordan Leadership Institute is
3030 dedicated to shaping a future in which diverse leadership fosters
3131 fair, safe, and prosperous communities, and this special day
3232 serves as a fitting opportunity to amplify the voices of those
3333 historically underrepresented in policymaking and to promote
3434 civic participation, advocacy, and leadership development among
3535 our state's emerging Black leaders; now, therefore, be it
3636 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
3737 Legislature, hereby commend the Barbara Jordan Leadership
3838 Institute on its vital contributions to democracy in Texas and
3939 extend to all best wishes for a memorable and rewarding day at the
4040 State Capitol; and, be it further
4141 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
4242 honor of this special occasion.
