5	8		WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
6	9		commemorates the life of Norma Jean Spiller de Jong, who died
7	10		November 15, 2024, at the age of 97; and
8	11		WHEREAS, Norma Jean Spiller was born on August 8, 1927, and
9	12		she grew up in Ponca City, Oklahoma; she attended Cottey College,
10	13		and she went on to earn a bachelor's degree in religious
11	14		education from Phillips University and a master's degree in
12	15		public health from the University of Michigan; and
13	16		WHEREAS, Norma shared 61 years of marriage with Dirk de
14	17		Jong, and they found great joy in traveling the world together;
15	18		they resided in Panama, New Jersey, Puerto Rico, and Argentina
16	19		before settling in Houston, where Norma enjoyed a 17-year career
17	20		with the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center; and
18	21		WHEREAS, Norma and Dirk were blessed with four children,
19	22		Richard, Els, Dayna, and Kaes, and their eight grandchildren and
20	23		seven great-grandchildren enriched her life immeasurably; and
21	24		WHEREAS, Guided throughout her life by her spiritual
22	25		faith, Norma served as an elder and was an active member of the
23	26		congregation of Northwoods Presbyterian Church, and she gave
24	27		generously of her time and energy as a volunteer with Northwest
25	28		Assistance Ministries and the Philanthropic Educational
26	29		Organization Sisterhood; and
27	30		WHEREAS, Norma was a source of inspiration to her many
28	31		friends and loved ones through her selfless example and her
29	32		enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest, and she leaves
30		-	behind memories that will long be cherished by her family and
31		-	by all who were privileged to share in her life; now,

33	36		RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
34	37		Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
35	38		family of Norma Jean Spiller de Jong; and, be it further
36	39		RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
37	40		her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
38	41		Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
39	42		memory of Norma de Jong.
