8+ WHEREAS, Proud residents of Dripping Springs are celebrating
9+ the history of their community at the 36th annual Founders Day
10+ Festival, taking place from April 25 to 27, 2025; and
611 WHEREAS, The city traces its origins to the 1850s, when the
712 Moss, Pound, and Wallace families joined together to pursue their
8- dream of moving to Texas from Mississippi; travelling by wagon,
9- the "Old Three" arrived at the top of what is today known as
10- Wallace Mountain in January 1854 and decided to settle among the
11- area's rolling hills, rocky creek beds, and abundant wildlife;
12- after John Moss was appointed postmaster in 1857, his wife,
13- Indiana, named the frontier community in honor of the nearby
14- springs that were fed by the Milk House branch of the Edwards
15- Aquifer; and
16- WHEREAS, Dripping Springs served as a stagecoach stop
17- between Austin and Fredericksburg, and by the 1880s, the town had
18- come to support several businesses, including a steam-powered
19- gristmill and cotton gins; entrepreneur W. T. Chapman created a
20- 12-block city plan in 1881, and a school, a hotel, a livery
21- stable, and several shops were soon established; farming and
22- ranching remained the mainstays of the economy for the next
23- century, but the expansion of Austin beginning in the 1970s
24- helped convince Dripping Springs residents to incorporate the
25- city in 1981; and

30- part of the economy; moreover, the city hosts more than 1,000
31- weddings each year, and it has been designated as the official
32- Wedding Capital of Texas; and

32+ retail and hospitality businesses have become an important part of
33+ the economy; moreover, the city hosts more than 1,000 weddings each

3336 WHEREAS, The 2025 Founders Day Festival is organized by the
3437 City of Dripping Springs and the Founders Day Commission; the
3538 celebration features a range of attractions, including a parade,
3639 live music, arts and crafts, and a carnival, as well as a church
3740 service on the final day; proceeds benefit local nonprofit
3841 organizations, churches, school and park programs, youth groups,
3942 and other charities; and
40- WHEREAS, Celebrating their rich heritage as they look
41- forward to a bright future, the citizens of Dripping Springs may
42- take great pride in their continuing contributions to Hays County
43- and the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
44- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
45- Legislature, hereby commemorate the 36th annual Dripping Springs
46- Founders Day Festival and extend to all those in attendance
47- sincere best wishes for a meaningful and memorable event.
