2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

3 | 3 | | recognize members of the Jacksonville Leadership Institute and |

4 | 4 | | the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce as they gather to celebrate |
---|
5 | 5 | | Jacksonville Leadership Day at the State Capitol on |
---|
6 | 6 | | February 11, 2025; and |
---|
7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, The largest city in Cherokee County, Jacksonville |
---|
8 | 8 | | was established in 1847 along Gum Creek, and the townsite was |
---|
9 | 9 | | moved to its present location in 1872 to increase its proximity |
---|
10 | 10 | | to the railroad; and |
---|
11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The city's early economy centered around the |
---|
12 | 12 | | production of crops such as peaches and tomatoes, and its labor |
---|
13 | 13 | | force continues to be employed in a diverse mix of industries and |
---|
14 | 14 | | businesses, including agriculture, plastic manufacturing, |
---|
15 | 15 | | clothing distribution centers, and medical facilities; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, The city is home to the Baptist Missionary |
---|
17 | 17 | | Association Theological Seminary and Jacksonville College, and |
---|
18 | 18 | | all eight campuses of the Jacksonville Independent School |
---|
19 | 19 | | District have been recipients of the highest rating from the |
---|
20 | 20 | | Texas Education Agency; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Known as the Tomato Capital of the World, |
---|
22 | 22 | | Jacksonville's agricultural heritage is celebrated by an annual |
---|
23 | 23 | | tomato festival; the city's numerous attractions also include |
---|
24 | 24 | | the Tomato Bowl football and soccer stadium, one of the last |
---|
25 | 25 | | remaining downtown stadiums in Texas, and a variety of outdoor |
---|
26 | 26 | | activities on Lake Jacksonville; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, The citizens of Jacksonville are working to |
---|
28 | 28 | | preserve their rich history as they look ahead to the |
---|
29 | 29 | | opportunities of the future, and they may take justifiable pride |
---|
30 | 30 | | in their valuable contributions to the story of the Lone Star |
---|
31 | 31 | | State; now, therefore, be it |
---|
32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th |
---|
33 | 33 | | Legislature, hereby recognize February 11, 2025, as Jacksonville |
---|
34 | 34 | | Leadership Day at the Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the |
---|
35 | 35 | | visiting delegation; and, be it further |
---|
36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
