58 WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
69 passing of Earl M. Swindle Sr. of Houston on April 3, 2025, at the
710 age of 89; and
811 WHEREAS, The son of Bernice and W. M. Swindle, Earl Swindle
912 was born in Shelby County on May 20, 1935, and he was blessed with
1013 the companionship of 10 siblings, Perry, David, Kathy, Charles,
11- Earnest, Retha, Pamela, Donna, Dedra, and Dadra; he graduated
12- from Jack Yates High School in 1953, and he went on to earn a
13- bachelor's degree in business administration from Texas Southern
14- University in 1957; shortly thereafter, he enlisted in the U.S.
15- Army, and he served as a sharpshooter for three years until his
16- honorable discharge; and
17- WHEREAS, Mr. Swindle wed the former Minerva Ellen Higgins
18- on November 13, 1960, and the couple shared a rewarding marriage
19- that spanned 37 years until her passing in 1997; he took great
20- pride in their two sons, Earl and Rodney, and he had the pleasure
21- of seeing their treasured family grow to include three grandsons,
22- Issaiah, Zane, and Jarrett; and

15+ Jack Yates High School in 1953, and he went on to earn a bachelor's
16+ degree in business administration from Texas Southern University in

2427 Oil Company as an entry-level executive; later that year, he

2629 proprietors of a Gulf Oil retail service and fuel operation; he
27- subsequently opened Swindle's Gulf Service Station, later known
28- as Swindle's Chevron; and
29- WHEREAS, Over the years, Mr. Swindle's establishment
30- became a gathering place for Third Ward community members from
31- all walks of life; in recognition of its success, he was awarded
32- the Gulf Oil Company Gold Service Award five times, and he also
33- served twice as president of the company's honor council; he
34- employed many of his extended family members, and he also
35- benefited from his wife's assistance for more than three and a
36- half decades; after closing the station in 2001, he worked
37- briefly for Randall Reed Ford before embarking on a 17-year
38- tenure with the The Home Depot; and

32+ WHEREAS, Over the years, Mr. Swindle's establishment became

50- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
51- Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Earl M. Swindle
52- Sr. and extend heartfelt condolences to his family and friends;
53- and, be it further

51+ hearts; now, therefore, be it
52+ RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature
53+ hereby pay tribute to the memory of Earl M. Swindle Sr. and extend
54+ heartfelt condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
5455 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
55- prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
56- this day, it do so in memory of Earl Swindle.
