8+ WHEREAS, Community leaders from Balch Springs are gathering
9+ in Austin on April 23, 2025, to celebrate Balch Springs Day at the
10+ State Capitol; and
511 WHEREAS, Located in Dallas County, the town traces its
612 history to the 1870s, when John Balch, who had fought for the
713 independence of Texas at the Battle of San Jacinto and other
814 engagements, settled in the area with his family; his land
915 contained a permanent spring that became a gathering place for
1016 nearby residents, and the settlement that took shape over the
1117 following decades was named for him and this important water
1218 source; and
1319 WHEREAS, Balch Springs is a home-rule city that was
14- incorporated in 1953, when approximately 3,000 people lived
15- there; the population rose in the decades that followed, with an
16- increasing number of manufacturing companies and other
17- businesses opening their doors; and

38- Legislature, hereby recognize April 23, 2025, as Balch Springs
39- Day at the State Capitol and extend to the visiting delegation
40- sincere best wishes for a meaningful and memorable stay in
41- Austin.
