5 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Zilker Elementary School opened its doors to |

6 | 12 | | students in the fall of 1950; it was named in honor of Austin |

7 | 13 | | businessman and philanthropist, Andrew J. Zilker, who played an |
---|
8 | 14 | | instrumental role in providing funding to Austin public schools |
---|
9 | 15 | | and in the establishment of Zilker Metropolitan Park and Barton |
---|
12 | 18 | | WHEREAS, The school has greatly expanded in capacity from |

13 | 19 | | its original 270 students and has broadened its focus through the |
---|
14 | 20 | | years to include such initiatives as a dual language program, |
---|
15 | 21 | | environmental education, and an emphasis on the arts and social |
---|
16 | 22 | | and emotional learning; and |
---|
17 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Under the exceptional leadership of its |
---|
18 | 24 | | principal, A. J. Pitts, and with the indispensible support of its |
---|
19 | 25 | | exemplary educators, support staff, and community members, |
---|
20 | 26 | | Zilker Elementary School has continued its mission to nurture |
---|
21 | 27 | | problem-solving, creative, and resilient young people and to |
---|
22 | 28 | | empower and equip them to make a positive difference in the |
---|
23 | 29 | | world; now, therefore, be it |
---|
24 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th |
---|
25 | 31 | | Legislature, hereby commend the administrators, faculty, and |
---|
26 | 32 | | staff of Zilker Elementary School on their commitment to |
---|
27 | 33 | | excellence in education and extend to all best wishes for a |
---|
28 | 34 | | memorable 75th anniversary celebration; and, be it further |
---|
29 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
30 | 36 | | the school as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
