8+ WHEREAS, Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that
9+ is estimated to affect 1 in every 36 children in the United States;
10+ and
511 WHEREAS, Individuals living with autism may experience
612 challenges with communication and social interaction, and other
713 characteristics of autism spectrum disorder include repetitive
8- activities and behaviors, resistance to changes in environment
9- and daily routines, and sensory processing difficulties; and
10- WHEREAS, Although the underlying causes of autism are
11- complex and not yet fully understood, individuals with autism can
12- benefit greatly from early diagnosis, intervention, and
13- appropriate education, which can help them transition to greater
14- independence in later life; and

16+ WHEREAS, Although the underlying causes of autism are complex

1622 dedicated to raising public awareness about autism and rallying
17- support for those individuals and families who are affected;
18- these organizations include Angel's Mission, which works to
19- promote inclusion and to empower the families of people with
20- autism and other disabilities, and PdN Children's, which offers a
21- variety of programs designed to help children with autism,
22- language delays, and other developmental challenges to reach
23- their full potential; and
24- WHEREAS, Autism Acceptance Month is taking place in
25- April, and this observance serves as a fitting opportunity to
26- celebrate the strengths and contributions made by individuals
27- with autism and to honor those who are working toward a future
28- where all neurodivergent people are valued and accepted; now,
29- therefore, be it
30- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
31- Legislature, hereby recognize Angel's Mission and PdN Children's
32- on the occasion of Autism Acceptance Month and extend heartfelt
33- best wishes to all those who are striving to make El Paso a more
34- inclusive place for persons with autism.
