28 WHEREAS, Goodwill Industries of San Antonio is celebrating
39 its 80th anniversary in 2025, providing a fitting opportunity to
410 recognize the organization for its myriad contributions; and
511 WHEREAS, Goodwill San Antonio traces its origins to 1945,
612 when it was launched amid the city's post-World War II rebuilding
713 efforts; founded by a group of prominent business, religious, and
814 civic leaders, the organization began with an initial investment
915 goal of $25,000 and a commitment to provide workforce development
10- opportunities to individuals facing employment barriers; its
11- first store opened on the city's Southside in 1946, and 18 of its
12- 22 employees were Purple Heart war veterans; and

1319 WHEREAS, Over the past eight decades, Goodwill San Antonio

17- locations in San Antonio, Kerrville, Laredo, New Braunfels,
18- Seguin, Bulverde, and Cibolo; and

1925 WHEREAS, Goodwill San Antonio provides thousands of area

2228 assisting those encountering hiring obstacles such as prior
23- incarceration, disabilities, or a lack of formal education;

27- WHEREAS, Revenue generated by Goodwill San Antonio's
28- retail stores and contract services operations are reinvested
29- into its many mission-driven programs, creating a cycle of
30- economic opportunity and community benefit; among other
31- initiatives, the organization has established the Goodwill
32- Academy & Career Services vocational training program to help
33- prepare individuals for jobs in such high-demand industries as
34- health care, manufacturing, logistics, and skilled trades; and

3540 WHEREAS, For 80 years, Goodwill San Antonio has played an
36- important role in numerous South Texas communities, changing
37- lives through the power of work and equipping individuals with
38- the tools they need to reach their full potential as engaged and
39- productive members of society; now, therefore, be it
40- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
41- Legislature, hereby commemorate the 80th anniversary of Goodwill
42- Industries of San Antonio and extend to all those associated with
43- the organization sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it
44- further

42+ through the power of work and equipping individuals with the tools
43+ they need to reach their full potential as engaged and productive

45+ RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature
