2	8		WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	9		recognize Bill Matthys, who was recently honored with a Larry
4	10		Carter Award by the Cuero Chamber of Commerce for his many
5	11		outstanding contributions to the Cuero community; and
6	12		WHEREAS, The Larry Carter Award is bestowed by the Cuero
7	13		Chamber of Commerce to recognize exceptional individuals in the
8	14		community who exemplify the highest ideals of civic engagement
9	15		and who go beyond the call of duty in serving the citizens of
10	16		Cuero; and
11	17		WHEREAS, Bill Matthys is an esteemed Texan who holds a
12	18		journalism degree and a master's degree in language curriculum
13		-	from the University of Houston; he served with distinction as
14		-	an officer in the United States Army and the United States Army
15		-	Reserve, and he concluded his military career having attained
16		-	~~the~~ rank of captain after 11 years of loyal service to his
17		-	~~country;~~ and

18	24		WHEREAS, Bill Matthys has served his community as an
19	25		educator, and his career as a teacher and administrator in Texas
20	26		public schools spanned more than three decades; he earned the
21	27		respect of colleagues and community members during his 16 years
22	28		of service with the Cuero Independent School District, and after
23	29		retiring from the district, he went on to become a certified
24	30		legal assistant and joined the staff of Dietze and Reese Law Firm
25	31		in Cuero, where he served as a paralegal for seven years; and
26	32		WHEREAS, Beyond his professional contributions to Cuero,
27	33		Bill has helped to enhance the community's quality of life
28	34		through his work in numerous civic leadership capacities; he has
29	35		served on the boards of the DeWitt County Habitat for Humanity
30	36		and the Cuero Independent School District Education Foundation,
31	37		and he has served as a member and a past president of the Cuero
32	38		Lions Club and the Cuero Chamber of Commerce; in addition, he has
33	39		dedicated 17 years to the Cuero City Council as a member at large,
34	40		including 14 years of leadership guiding the city as mayor pro
35	41		tempore; and
36	42		WHEREAS, Bill Matthys is a distinguished veteran, a
37	43		devoted husband and father, and a faithful member of the Lutheran
38	44		Church Missouri Synod; he has long been committed to enriching
39	45		his community and to serving the greater good, and it is truly
40	46		fitting that he receive special recognition for his many
41	47		contributions to the Cuero community; now, therefore, be it
42	48		RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
43	49		Legislature, hereby congratulate Bill Matthys on receiving the
44	50		2025 Larry Carter Award and extend to him best wishes for the
45	51		future; and, be it further
46	52		RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
47	53		him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
