| 6 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Situated in the Coastal Prairies region along the |

| 7 | 13 | | lower Gulf Coast, Refugio County was organized as one of the 13 |

| 8 | 14 | | original counties of the Republic of Texas, with the town of |
|---|
| 9 | 15 | | Refugio as its county seat; both the town and county are named for |
|---|
| 10 | 16 | | Nuestra Señora del Refugio Mission, which was founded in the area |
|---|
| 11 | 17 | | in 1793 and remained in operation until 1830; and |
|---|
| 12 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Agriculture is a leading industry in Refugio |
|---|
| 13 | 19 | | County, and the area serves as an important source of livestock, |
|---|
| 14 | 20 | | sorghum, cotton, corn, wheat, and hay; the county receives |
|---|
| 15 | 21 | | economic benefits derived from the region's natural resources, |
|---|
| 16 | 22 | | including petroleum, natural gas, and industrial sand, and |
|---|
| 17 | 23 | | hunters are drawn to the landscape for its diverse wildlife; and |
|---|
| 18 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Today, Refugio County is home to approximately |

| 19 | 25 | | 6,700 people; residents and visitors alike enjoy attending |
|---|
| 20 | 26 | | annual events hosted by the town of Refugio, such as the Refugio |
|---|
| 21 | 27 | | County Fair; and |
|---|
| 22 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Refugio County has flourished under the dedicated |
|---|
| 23 | 29 | | leadership of its elected officials, including county judge |
|---|
| 24 | 30 | | Jhiela "Gigi" Poynter and county commissioners Roy Payne, |

| 25 | 31 | | Stanley Tuttle, Gary Wright, and Blaine Wolfshohl; and |

| 26 | 32 | | WHEREAS, The people of Refugio County take great pride in |
