28 WHEREAS, The members of Blue Star Mothers of America have
39 long rendered exceptional service to families and U.S. military
410 personnel; and
5- WHEREAS, On January 22, 1942, Army Captain George Maines
6- ran an advertisement in the Flint News-Advertiser calling for
7- mothers of members of the U.S. armed forces to come together; the
8- following month, on February 1, 300 mothers held their first
9- meeting in Flint, Michigan, and in 1960, Blue Star Mothers of
10- America, Inc., received its charter from the U.S. Congress; a
11- nonpartisan, nonpolitical, and nonsectarian organization, BSMA
12- is composed of mothers, stepmothers, grandmothers, foster
13- mothers, and female legal guardians whose children are serving in
14- the military or who have achieved the status of veteran; and

1723 chapters that represent thousands of military families in the
1824 United States; among their many contributions, BSMA members ship
1925 care packages to military personnel who are deployed overseas,
2026 visit hospitalized veterans, assist veterans organizations, and
21- join together to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice
22- in defense of our nation; and

2329 WHEREAS, Committed to supporting our troops, our veterans,
24- and the families of those who so bravely serve, Blue Star Mothers
25- of America fosters a community of compassion while promoting
26- patriotism and a sense of pride and appreciation for all members
27- of the U.S. armed forces; now, therefore, be it
28- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
29- Legislature, hereby commend the Texas chapters of Blue Star
30- Mothers of America for their important work and extend to all
31- those associated with the chapters sincere best wishes for the
32- future.
