58 WHEREAS, Words cannot fully express the sorrow felt at the
6- loss of Dawson County Deputy Jessie Ray Perez, who died in the
7- line of duty on April 22, 2025, at the age of 42; and
8- WHEREAS, The son of Florenzio and Gracie Perez, Jessie
9- Perez was born in Richmond on January 24, 1983, and he grew up
10- with the companionship of three siblings, Julian, Bobby, and
11- Rosalinda; and
12- WHEREAS, At the time of his death, Deputy Perez had served
13- for eight months with the Dawson County Sheriff's Office; he
14- brought a wealth of knowledge to that role, drawing on his
15- expertise as a longtime member of the O'Donnell Volunteer Fire
16- Department and his service with the Lynn County EMS team and
17- other emergency medical services departments; he was also a
18- member of the O'Donnell City Council; admired for his integrity,
19- courage, and unwavering sense of duty, Deputy Perez earned the
20- respect of his colleagues and fellow West Texas citizens alike,
21- and his tragic death has inspired an outpouring of prayers,
22- sympathy, and support from the community; and

25- Linda Sue, and he took great pride in his four children,
26- Mackenzie, Zoey, Shelby, and Fabian, and his grandson,
27- Zephaniah; and
28- WHEREAS, Beloved for his kindness, generosity, and keen
29- sense of humor, Jessie Perez was a compassionate and caring first
30- responder who embodied the highest ideals of his profession, and
31- he leaves behind a legacy of service that will long be treasured
32- by all those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it
33- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
34- Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Deputy Jessie Ray
35- Perez and extend deepest condolences to the members of his
36- family: to his wife, Linda Sue Perez; to his children, Mackenzie
37- Perez, Zoey Vargas, Shelby Vargas and her husband, Branson, and
38- Fabian Vargas; to his grandson, Zephaniah Vargas; to his mother,
39- Gracie Perez; to his siblings, Julian Gutierrez and his wife,
40- Miranda, Bobby Perez, and Rosalinda Johnson and her husband,
41- Demond; and to his many other relatives and friends; and, be it
42- further
