28 WHEREAS, May 2025 is being observed as Jewish American
39 Heritage Month, a time to recognize the many vital contributions
410 made by Jewish Americans to the United States and to the State of
511 Texas; and
612 WHEREAS, The American Jewish community traces its roots to
7- 1654, when a group of 23 Jewish men, women, and children migrated
8- to New Amsterdam, present-day New York City, from Recife, Brazil,
9- to escape religious persecution; during the more than three and a
10- half centuries that have followed, Jewish Americans have played
11- an integral role in our nation's development and have
12- demonstrated their commitment to country and community in myriad
13- ways; only a few years after the 350th anniversary of that
14- historic arrival, May was officially proclaimed Jewish American
15- Heritage Month by President George W. Bush in 2006; and

21- through their achievements in literature, art, music, film, and
22- other fields; and

27- and established congregations and charitable institutions
28- statewide; moreover, Jewish Americans have helped to shape the
29- cultural and economic fabric of Texas through business,
30- education, philanthropy, and civic engagement; today, members of
31- Jewish organizations throughout Texas continue to build on this
32- proud legacy, ensuring that the values of freedom, justice, and
33- community service endure for future generations; and

38- prosperity, resilience, and quality of life in our state and
39- nation; now, therefore, be it
40- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
41- Legislature, hereby recognize May 2025 as Jewish American
42- Heritage Month.

46+ RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature
47+ hereby recognize May 2025 as Jewish American Heritage Month.
