28 WHEREAS, Major General (Ret.) Anthony Woods, former
3- commanding general of the Texas State Guard, rendered
4- exceptional service to his country and his state over the course
5- of a distinguished military career that spanned four decades; and
9+ commanding general of the Texas State Guard, rendered exceptional
10+ service to his country and his state over the course of a
11+ distinguished military career that spanned four decades; and
612 WHEREAS, Anthony Woods received an early commission as a
7- second lieutenant in the U.S. Army in 1984; he attained the ranks
8- of first lieutenant, captain, and major with the Army National
9- Guard, and he served as executive officer for the 1st Battalion,
10- 112th Armor Regiment, during Operation Noble Eagle, the first
11- deployment of troops to protect critical infrastructure
12- following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001; he went on
13- to become a lieutenant colonel and the first African American
14- commander of the unit in 2005, providing vital leadership during
15- the initial American training exercise in Romania after the fall
16- of the Soviet Union; and

1723 WHEREAS, The next year, Lieutenant Colonel Woods acted as
18- deputy commander for Operation Jump Start, an initiative to
19- secure the southwest border; after rising to the title of colonel
20- in 2009, he served as deputy commander of the Joint Interagency
21- Task Force, which was created to support law enforcement during
22- Texas disasters, and commanded the 136th Regional Training
23- Institute; in 2012, he deployed to Afghanistan to oversee the
24- Security Forces Agency Task Force; and
25- WHEREAS, Colonel Woods was elevated to brigadier general
26- with the Texas State Guard, and in June 2022, he was appointed by
24+ deputy commander for Operation Jump Start, an initiative to secure
25+ the southwest border; after rising to the title of colonel in 2009,
26+ he served as deputy commander of the Joint Interagency Task Force,
27+ which was created to support law enforcement during Texas
28+ disasters, and commanded the 136th Regional Training Institute; in

3339 general during his tenure, and he announced his retirement in
3440 August 2024, drawing to a close a decorated career; and
3541 WHEREAS, The leadership, integrity, and commitment to
36- excellence demonstrated by Anthony Woods have greatly benefited
37- his fellow citizens, and he may indeed take pride in his
38- indelible legacy of service with the Army National Guard and the
39- Texas State Guard; now, therefore, be it
40- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
41- Legislature, hereby commend Major General (Ret.) Anthony Woods
42- for his exemplary military career and extend to him sincere best
43- wishes for the future; and, be it further
42+ excellence demonstrated by Anthony Woods have greatly benefited his
43+ fellow citizens, and he may indeed take pride in his indelible
44+ legacy of service with the Army National Guard and the Texas State
45+ Guard; now, therefore, be it
46+ RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature
47+ hereby commend Major General (Ret.) Anthony Woods for his exemplary
48+ military career and extend to him sincere best wishes for the
49+ future; and, be it further
4450 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
