28 WHEREAS, Preservation Month is taking place in May 2025,
39 providing a fitting opportunity to recognize Rio Vista Farm in
410 Socorro; and
511 WHEREAS, Rio Vista Farm was initially established in the
6- early 1900s to serve as a poor farm and institutional campus;
7- from 1951 to 1964, it served as a processing center for the
8- Bracero Program, an initiative established by the governments of
9- the United States and Mexico that brought Mexican laborers to the
10- U.S. to legally work in the American agricultural and railroad
11- industries; as one of the first and most active bracero centers
12- in the U.S., Rio Vista processed hundreds of thousands of workers
13- over the course of its operation; and

19- preservation officer, Victor Reta; the city has embarked on a
20- $35 million rehabilitation and capital improvement project to
21- restore the campus and adapt it for public use as a cultural
22- destination by establishing a museum and education center; and

26- historically significant site, the City of Socorro is ensuring
27- that it will be appreciated for generations to come; now,
28- therefore, be it
29- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
30- Legislature, hereby honor the revitalization efforts at Rio
31- Vista Farm on the occasion of Preservation Month 2025 and extend
32- to all those associated with the initiative sincere best wishes
33- for continued success; and, be it further
31+ made to our state and nation, and by investing in this historically
32+ significant site, the City of Socorro is ensuring that it will be
33+ appreciated for generations to come; now, therefore, be it
34+ RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature
35+ hereby honor the revitalization efforts at Rio Vista Farm on the
36+ occasion of Preservation Month 2025 and extend to all those
37+ associated with the initiative sincere best wishes for continued
38+ success; and, be it further
3439 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
