| 5 | 11 | | WHEREAS, This distinguished military veteran honorably |

| 6 | 12 | | served the nation during World War II, and he is noted for his |
|---|
| 7 | 13 | | wisdom, warmth, and generous spirit and is a respected and |
|---|
| 8 | 14 | | admired citizen of Corpus Christi; and |
|---|
| 9 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Jose Mendez was born in Tampico, Mexico, on April |
|---|
| 10 | 16 | | 27, 1925, and he grew up in Duval County, where he learned the |
|---|
| 11 | 17 | | value of hard work and dedication working with livestock and |
|---|
| 12 | 18 | | selling animal hides; and |
|---|
| 13 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Mendez was called to serve in World War II, |
|---|
| 14 | 20 | | and he spent many months valiantly defending the Allied Forces on |
|---|
| 15 | 21 | | the front lines of such historic events as the Battle of the |
|---|
| 16 | 22 | | Bulge, Hurtgen Forest, and operations in Central Europe; and |
|---|
| 17 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Galvanized by the comrades he fought alongside |
|---|
| 18 | 24 | | during the war, Mr. Mendez committed himself to serving as an |
|---|
| 19 | 25 | | advocate for veterans' rights, and throughout the previous eight |
|---|
| 20 | 26 | | decades, he has worked to serve and unify people in his community |
|---|
| 21 | 27 | | and country; he is an esteemed citizen and a beloved and |
|---|
| 22 | 28 | | respected longtime resident of Corpus Christi, and he has |
|---|
| 23 | 29 | | contributed to his community through such endeavors as |
|---|
| 24 | 30 | | cofounding the Westside Business Association and serving as a |
|---|
| 25 | 31 | | city planning commissioner; and |
|---|
| 26 | 32 | | WHEREAS, A treasured Texan, Jose Mendez has witnessed many |
|---|
| 27 | 33 | | historic events during his lifetime, and there is much to be |
|---|
| 28 | 34 | | learned from the wisdom he has gained over the years; his 100th |
|---|
| 29 | 35 | | year of life is an occasion for much rejoicing among his family |
|---|
| 30 | 36 | | and friends, and his loved ones gathered on April 25, 2025, to |
|---|
| 31 | 37 | | share in celebrating this important milestone in his life; now, |
|---|
| 32 | 38 | | therefore, be it |

| 33 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th |
|---|
| 34 | 40 | | Legislature, hereby commend Jose Noe Mendez on his many |

| 35 | 41 | | accomplishments and extend to him congratulations and best |
|---|
| 36 | 42 | | wishes on the joyous occasion of his 100th birthday; and, be it |
