No. 528 SENATE RESOLUTION WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Mary Help of Christians School in Laredo on the grand occasion of its 90th anniversary; and WHEREAS, In 1935 a group of Salesian Sisters of Saint John Bosco fled violence and persecution in Mexico and found a permanent home for their order in the City of Laredo, where they opened a school on Houston Street; the school opened with six pupils, and it quickly grew to serve more students in neighboring parishes before it moved into its current location on Del Mar Boulevard in 1963; and WHEREAS, Accredited by the Texas Education Agency, Mary Help of Christians School now serves more than 430 students and maintains a reputation for educational excellence in Laredo; successful fund-raising efforts over the years have resulted in the addition of classrooms as well as expansion of valuable educational resources that ensures the school's ability to provide an enriching environment for learning and spiritual development for many years to come; and WHEREAS, Mary Help of Christians School faithfully honors Saint John Bosco's mission to empower youth with a joyful vision and hope for a better world while preparing them to become well-educated, productive citizens with a global perspective; all who contribute to its success are truly deserving of recognition for their commitment to upholding the quality and presence of this highly respected, historic Catholic institution in Laredo; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th Legislature, hereby commend the administrators, educators, and staff of Mary Help of Christians School in Laredo and extend to them congratulations on 90 years of success and best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the school as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
