	7	+	SENATE RESOLUTION
2	8		WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	9		recognize Mary Help of Christians School in Laredo on the grand
4	10		occasion of its 90th anniversary; and
5	11		WHEREAS, In 1935 a group of Salesian Sisters of Saint John
6	12		Bosco fled violence and persecution in Mexico and found a
7	13		permanent home for their order in the City of Laredo, where they
8	14		opened a school on Houston Street; the school opened with six
9	15		pupils, and it quickly grew to serve more students in neighboring
10	16		parishes before it moved into its current location on Del Mar
11	17		Boulevard in 1963; and
12	18		WHEREAS, Accredited by the Texas Education Agency, Mary
13	19		Help of Christians School now serves more than 430 students and
14	20		maintains a reputation for educational excellence in Laredo;
15	21		successful fund-raising efforts over the years have resulted in
16	22		the addition of classrooms as well as expansion of valuable
17	23		educational resources that ensures the school's ability to
18	24		provide an enriching environment for learning and spiritual
19	25		development for many years to come; and
20	26		WHEREAS, Mary Help of Christians School faithfully honors
21	27		Saint John Bosco's mission to empower youth with a joyful vision
22	28		and hope for a better world while preparing them to become
23	29		well-educated, productive citizens with a global perspective;
24	30		all who contribute to its success are truly deserving of
25	31		recognition for their commitment to upholding the quality and
26	32		presence of this highly respected, historic Catholic institution
27	33		in Laredo; now, therefore, be it
28	34		RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
29	35		Legislature, hereby commend the administrators, educators, and
30	36		staff of Mary Help of Christians School in Laredo and extend to
31	37		them congratulations on 90 years of success and best wishes for
32	38		the future; and, be it further
33	39		RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
34	40		the school as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
