77 R E S O L U T I O N
88 WHEREAS, Caterpillar Inc. in Irving is celebrating its 100th
99 anniversary in 2025, and this occasion offers a welcome opportunity
1010 to reflect on the history and accomplishments of this venerable
1111 enterprise; and
1212 WHEREAS, Caterpillar can trace its origins back to the late
1313 19th century, when inventors Benjamin Holt and C. L. Best
1414 independently developed steam- and gasoline-powered equipment that
1515 could work faster and longer than horse-drawn machines; their
1616 companies merged into what was then known as the Caterpillar
1717 Tractor Co. in 1925; initially offering five agricultural models,
1818 the company has since expanded its product line to include
1919 construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines,
2020 industrial gas turbines, and diesel-electric locomotives; and
2121 WHEREAS, Over the decades, Caterpillar products have
2222 supported some of the world's biggest infrastructure projects,
2323 including the U.S. interstate highway system, the Panama Canal, the
2424 Golden Gate Bridge, and the Hoover and Three Gorges Dams, and its
2525 equipment played a vital role in powering the Apollo 11 mission to
2626 the moon; a strong presence in Texas since the 1960s, the company
2727 moved its headquarters to Irving in 2022; and
2828 WHEREAS, Caterpillar is dedicated to closing the skills gaps
2929 in the manufacturing industry, and it has launched numerous
3030 initiatives to further this goal, including a STEM outreach
3131 program, a paid technician training initiative, and the Global
3232 Dealer Technician Challenge; moreover, the company recently
3333 pledged $100 million to continue its efforts to build an adept
3434 workforce; a Fortune 500 company, Caterpillar has been recognized
3535 for its innovation, quality, and commitment to diversity,
3636 sustainability, and employee satisfaction by such notable
3737 publications as Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek,
3838 Construction Equipment, and Roads & Bridges; and
3939 WHEREAS, Businesses that employ Texans and that contribute to
4040 the local economy are important components of a prosperous future,
4141 and Caterpillar is deserving of recognition for the positive role
4242 it plays in the Lone Star State and beyond; now, therefore, be it
4343 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature
4444 hereby commemorate the 100th anniversary of Caterpillar Inc. and
4545 extend to all those associated with the company sincere best wishes
4646 for the future; and, be it further
4747 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4848 prepared for Caterpillar as an expression of high regard by the
4949 Texas Senate.
