| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Caterpillar Inc. in Irving is celebrating its 100th |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | anniversary in 2025, and this occasion offers a welcome opportunity |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | to reflect on the history and accomplishments of this venerable |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | enterprise; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Caterpillar can trace its origins back to the late |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | 19th century, when inventors Benjamin Holt and C. L. Best |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | independently developed steam- and gasoline-powered equipment that |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | could work faster and longer than horse-drawn machines; their |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | companies merged into what was then known as the Caterpillar |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Tractor Co. in 1925; initially offering five agricultural models, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | the company has since expanded its product line to include |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | industrial gas turbines, and diesel-electric locomotives; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Over the decades, Caterpillar products have |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | supported some of the world's biggest infrastructure projects, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | including the U.S. interstate highway system, the Panama Canal, the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Golden Gate Bridge, and the Hoover and Three Gorges Dams, and its |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | equipment played a vital role in powering the Apollo 11 mission to |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | the moon; a strong presence in Texas since the 1960s, the company |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | moved its headquarters to Irving in 2022; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Caterpillar is dedicated to closing the skills gaps |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | in the manufacturing industry, and it has launched numerous |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | initiatives to further this goal, including a STEM outreach |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | program, a paid technician training initiative, and the Global |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Dealer Technician Challenge; moreover, the company recently |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | pledged $100 million to continue its efforts to build an adept |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | workforce; a Fortune 500 company, Caterpillar has been recognized |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | for its innovation, quality, and commitment to diversity, |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | sustainability, and employee satisfaction by such notable |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | publications as Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Construction Equipment, and Roads & Bridges; and |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | WHEREAS, Businesses that employ Texans and that contribute to |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | the local economy are important components of a prosperous future, |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | and Caterpillar is deserving of recognition for the positive role |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | it plays in the Lone Star State and beyond; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | hereby commemorate the 100th anniversary of Caterpillar Inc. and |
|---|
| 45 | 45 | | extend to all those associated with the company sincere best wishes |
|---|
| 46 | 46 | | for the future; and, be it further |

| 47 | 47 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
