2	8		WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	9		join the residents of Bastrop County and Texans across the state
4	10		in celebrating February 11, 2025, as Bastrop County Day at the
5	11		Texas Capitol; and
6	12		WHEREAS, Bastrop County traces its roots to the early
7	13		colonization of Texas, which began with the establishment of
8	14		Spanish missions and military settlements and was later
9	15		envisioned by Moses Austin and fulfilled by his son Stephen F.
10	16		Austin; three Bastropians were signers of the Texas Declaration
11	17		of Independence, and a number of the county's residents were
12	18		soldiers who fought at the Battle of the Alamo and the Battle of
13	19		San Jacinto; and
14	20		WHEREAS, The town of Bastrop, originally named "Mina" in
15	21		honor of Francisco Xavier Mina, a Mexican revolutionary hero, was
16	22		established as the principal settlement in the Stephen F. Austin
17	23		Little Colony of 1827; after the Civil War and the arrival of the
18	24		Texas Central Railroad, the area experienced significant growth,
19	25		and extensive timber and coal operations were a driving force in
20	26		the county's development; and
21		-	WHEREAS, Bastrop County has played an important role in ~~the~~
22		-	history of the Lone Star State, and today, the county is a

27	33		citizens of Bastrop County can look forward with confidence to a
28	34		bright future as they celebrate their rich and colorful history;
29	35		now, therefore, be it
30	36		RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
31	37		Legislature, hereby commend the people of Bastrop County on their
32	38		many contributions to the growth and prosperity of our state and
33	39		extend to all best wishes for a memorable Bastrop County Day at
34	40		the Capitol; and, be it further
35	41		RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
36	42		honor of this special occasion.
