28 | 31 | | a county official, he welcomed President Dwight D. Eisenhower and |

29 | 32 | | Mexican President Adolfo Ruiz Cortines to Starr County for the |

30 | 33 | | dedication of Falcon Dam in 1953; and |

31 | 34 | | WHEREAS, A tireless advocate for education, he served as a |

32 | 35 | | school board member and successfully persuaded oil companies to |

33 | 36 | | pay their fair share of taxes, which resulted in the funding and |

34 | 37 | | construction of two much-needed schools; and |

35 | 38 | | WHEREAS, His many contributions were recognized with |

36 | 39 | | prestigious accolades as well as in numerous publications, and he |

37 | 40 | | was honored for his work as a member of the International |
---|
38 | 41 | | Platform Association and the National Historical Society; and |
---|
39 | 42 | | WHEREAS, Through his military service, his leadership in |

40 | 43 | | local government, and his commitment to public education, Mr. |

41 | 44 | | Longoria made a profound and enduring impact in his community and |

42 | 45 | | state, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations |

43 | 46 | | who follow in his footsteps; now, therefore, be it |

44 | 47 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th |

45 | 48 | | Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Jose Maria |
